AstraZeneca China Announces Major Organizational Restructuring to Accelerate Oncology Pipeline and Strategic Transformation

This adjustment not only demonstrates AstraZeneca's determination to deepen its commitment in the field of oncology treatment but also reflects its strategic layout to accelerate the research, development, and market launch of innovative drugs.

 Gastrointestinal Oncology Business Unit (GI BU)

The newly established Gastrointestinal Oncology Business Unit will focus on various gastrointestinal tumor disease areas such as biliary tract cancer, liver cancer, esophageal cancer, colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, and pancreatic cancer. The core mission of this business unit is to promote the implementation of innovative therapies and combination treatment strategies, providing more effective treatment options for a wide range of patients with gastrointestinal tumors.

In terms of talent appointment, Dr. Wang Jun, the current head of the Central Marketing Department of the Lung Cancer Business Unit(Jane Wang)Honored as the Head of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Business Unit.

Dr. Wang Jun has rich professional knowledge and deep industry experience in the field of cancer treatment. Her joining will inject strong momentum into the development of the gastrointestinal oncology division, helping AstraZeneca achieve greater breakthroughs in this field.

 Early Assets Unit

In order to accelerate pipeline incubation and promote the high-quality launch of new products and new indications, AstraZeneca China has established“Early Pipeline Business Unit”. A major feature of this department is the establishment of a closer headquarters coordination mechanism and local implementation mechanism to achieve efficient resource integration and optimal allocation, thereby accelerating the entire process of innovative drugs from research and development to market launch.

In terms of talent appointments, the head of the Early Pipeline Business Unit will be recruited through both internal and external open recruitment, and this position will serve at the level of Vice President of AstraZeneca China, demonstrating the company's high regard for this department. Notably, the current Oncology Product Pipeline and Strategy team will be fully integrated into this department, further strengthening the Early Pipeline Business Unit’s pipeline layout and strategic planning capabilities in the oncology field.

This structural adjustment is an important step for AstraZeneca China on its strategic transformation journey.
