Biospace reported yesterday that, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act announcement, GSK layoffs are continuing, and the pharmaceutical company will lay off 150 employees in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

According to Endpoints News, this London-based company plans to relocate its Streptococcus pneumoniae vaccine production line from Cambridge to Marietta, Pennsylvania.

Last October, GSK announced an investment of $800 million to expand R&D and commercial facilities at its Marietta site. The upgrade includes the establishment of a vaccine manufacturing plant for products based on its star technology, MAPS (Multiple Antigen Presenting System), which aims to elicit stronger immune responses against various specific bacteria. GSK acquired this technology through the 2022 acquisition of Affinivax.

This round of layoffs will last from October 4 this year to March 31 next year, marking the second wave of layoffs announced by GSK this month.

According to a report by Fierce Biotech last week, GSK will also cut members of its global R&D team, with the specific number unknown.
