Artificial Heart R&D Company China Heart Biomedical Received $14 Million Financing From Bluesail

Bluesail just announced 14 million dollars investment for China Heart Biomedical, after this round of financing, Bluesail will hold a 10.16% stake in China Heart Biomedical. Both parties will jointly promote the development of the fully magnetic suspension artificial heart "CH-VAD".  

China Heart Biomedical was established in 2008, focusing on the development of artificial heart, its main product is artificial heart CH-VAD that obtained the clinical trial license from the State Food and Drug Administration at the end of 2018.

Heart failure kills hundreds of thousands of people every year. Public data shows that there are 26 million people with heart failure worldwide. Once a patient is diagnosed with heart failure, about 50% will die within 5 years. After entering advanced heart failure, about 50% will die within 2 years. Heart transplant surgery is currently recognized as the only effective treatment for heart failure, but the serious lack of cardiac donors greatly limits heart transplant surgery.

The emergence of artificial hearts is constantly improving this problem. It uses a mechanical pump to deliver blood to the body's circulatory system to aid or replace the heart's pumping function. Many patients only need adjuvant treatment of the left ventricle to survive for a long time. Some patients can fully recover their heart function after a period of artificial heart assistance.

CH-VAD has been used to treat three critically ill patients and has all been successful. The first patient has lived on an artificial heart for 2 years and maintained a normal life; the second patient successfully performed a heart transplant after 5 months of artificial heart assistance; the third patient's heart recovered completely after using the artificial heart for 5 months, and the artificial heart was successfully removed.
