On August 16, Eisai China announced the launch of its innovative insomnia drug, Dayvigo (Lemborexant), in China. Eisai is a multinational pharmaceutical company with operations across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, employing over 10,000 people globally. It entered the Chinese market in the early 1990s. The company focuses on neuroscience, oncology (specialty drugs), and gastroenterology/hepatology as its key business areas.

It is reported that in the field of neuroscience, Eisai has a rich R&D pipeline in the treatment areas of Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and sleep disorders. Feng Yanhui, Senior Vice President of Eisai Global and President of Eisai China, stated that the launch of Lemborexant is an important step for Eisai to deepen its presence in the neuroscience field in the Chinese market. In the future, Eisai will continue to increase its R&D investment in the neuroscience field, actively introduce more globally leading innovative drugs, and deepen cooperation with local Chinese research institutions and hospitals to jointly promote the research level in China's neuroscience field.

Eisai Co., Ltd. Executive and China Representative, Sayoko Sasaki, introduced that lemborexant has been approved and widely used in more than 20 major markets worldwide, including the United States and Japan. It has received positive feedback from patients and doctors globally, demonstrating good results in improving difficulty falling asleep, extending total sleep time, reducing nighttime awakenings, and enhancing next-day wakefulness.

For a long time, Eisai has been adhering to the hhc (human health care) philosophy, actively promoting the global accessibility of innovative drugs. It collaborates with governments, medical institutions, and payers in various countries to include drugs in medical insurance and commercial insurance, reducing the financial burden on patients. At the same time, it actively carries out patient education to help more people understand new solutions for insomnia treatment.

Feng Yanhui stated that in response to the significant unmet needs of patients with sleep disorders in China, improving the accessibility of Lemborexant is Eisai's top strategic priority. Eisai will establish a multi-channel medication purchasing system, including expanding coverage in offline medical institutions, deepening cooperation in online channels, and partnering with JD Health to build a "Sleep Center" and a full-chain ecosystem. This will provide patients with comprehensive services throughout the entire process—from disease education, online consultations, diagnosis, prescriptions, and medication purchases to medication guidance and health management—thereby lowering barriers for patients to access medications.

"We are committed to assisting doctors in screening suitable patients, providing matched treatments for patients who meet the indications, ensuring the pertinence and rationality of the treatment plan, and avoiding blind medication," said Feng Yanhui. (Yuan Yong, reporter of Economic Daily)
