Intelligent Finance APP learned that Eli Lilly (LLY.US) made an important announcement on Wednesday local time. Its anti-tumor drug Verzenio achieved a breakthrough in the late-stage clinical trial. According to the primary overall survival (OS) analysis data of the global Phase III monarchE trial, this drug, which has been approved by the U.S. FDA, significantly improved the overall survival rate of specific breast cancer patients as part of a combination treatment regimen.
This international multicenter study enrolled more than 5,500 patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative, lymph node-positive, and high-risk early breast cancer. The trial results showed that Verzenio combined with endocrine therapy achieved a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in overall survival, a key secondary endpoint, compared to endocrine therapy alone.
Notably, this oral medication has also demonstrated sustained benefits in key study endpoints such as invasive disease-free survival, which is the primary assessment goal set in the monarchE trial.
Jacob Van Naarden, head of Eli Lilly and Company's oncology division, stated, "These data further establish Verzenio as the standard treatment for lymph node-positive high-risk patients and underscore the importance of ensuring all eligible patients receive timely treatment."
According to the disclosure, Eli Lilly plans to present the research findings in detail at an upcoming medical conference, while submitting the paper to a prestigious academic journal for peer review, and initiating communication of the results with major regulatory agencies worldwide.
