On the afternoon of September 5, 2025, the establishment conference of the Brain-Computer Interface Standardization Technical Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the first plenary meeting were grandly held in Beijing. The conference was presided over by Yao Jia, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of MIIT, and Xie Shaofeng, Chief Engineer of MIIT. Attendees included more than a hundred guests such as Zhao Jizong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Yang Xudong, President of the China Electronics Standardization Institute. As one of the member unit representatives, FlectoThink was honored to participate in this grand event, joining representatives from various sectors to witness the new phase of China's brain-computer interface standardization efforts.

As a cutting-edge field in global technology, the standardization of brain-computer interfaces holds significant importance for industry development. In August 2025, seven departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) jointly issued the "Implementation Opinions," explicitly stating the goal to achieve breakthroughs in key technologies and establish a preliminary technical, industrial, and standards system by 2027, and to form a secure and reliable industrial system while nurturing 2-3 globally influential leading enterprises by 2030. The "Implementation Opinions" particularly emphasized the establishment of a brain-computer interface technology standards system, planning a roadmap for standardization development, accelerating the development of key standards, and promoting the implementation of these standards.

Against this backdrop, the Brain-Computer Interface Standardization Technical Committee (MIIT/TC4) of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology was officially established. The committee, designated as MIIT/TC4, is primarily responsible for the development and revision of industry standards in areas such as foundational commonality, input/output interfaces, data, industry applications, and ethical safety related to brain-computer interfaces. The first committee consists of 52 members, with its secretariat located at the China Electronics Standardization Institute. Key tasks following the establishment of the committee include optimizing and refining the standardization roadmap, identifying key directions and priorities for brain-computer interface standardization, accelerating the development of key technical standards—focusing on aspects like EEG acquisition, signal acquisition and processing, signal output/execution, and feedback—and promoting the implementation of standards to guide enterprises in aligning with these standards during research, production, and management processes.

As an innovative enterprise in non-invasive brain-computer interface technology, FlectoThink deeply recognizes the importance of standardization for industry development. Standardization not only regulates technology research, development, and application, enhancing safety and compatibility, but also provides a unified direction for the industry, promoting collaborative innovation and large-scale development. FlectoThink looks forward to working with the member units of the committee to actively participate in the formulation of brain-computer interface standards, especially contributing its technical experience and industry insights in areas such as technical specifications for non-invasive EEG devices, EEG signal data formats and transmission protocols, application standards for brain-computer interfaces in healthcare, and related ethical and safety standards.

The establishment of the Standardization Committee marks that the development of China's brain-computer interface industry has entered a new phase of standardization and normalization. FlectoThink believes that, under the guidance of the committee and through the establishment of a comprehensive standard system, China's brain-computer interface industry will develop in a healthier and more orderly manner. We will continue to adhere to the development path that combines technological innovation with industrial application, actively implement industry standards, and promote the transition of brain-computer interface technology from laboratory research to practical applications, contributing to the high-quality development of China’s brain-computer interface industry. Let us move forward hand in hand to jointly push China's brain-computer interface technology into a new era of standardization, industrialization, and internationalization.
