AstraZeneca announces the official launch of Ultomiris® (generic name: Ravulizumab Injection) in China. The long-acting C5 complement inhibitor will be used in combination with standard therapy to treat adult patients with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) who are positive for anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies, as well as adult patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) who are positive for anti-aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibodies.
As a long-acting C5 complement inhibitor, Ralizumab can instantly, completely, and continuously inhibit complement activation. The drug works by targeting and inhibiting the activation of terminal complement C5 in the immune system. Recently, Ralizumab has been approved in China for the treatment of specific adult gMG patients (April 2025) and NMOSD patients (August 2025). With the commercial launch of Ralizumab in China, it will provide a long-acting complement inhibitor for these patients, which is expected to improve the quality of life for gMG patients and has the potential to help NMOSD patients achieve zero relapses.
