China's First Brain-Computer Interface Industry Standard Released

According to CCTV News, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has recently approved and released the "Medical Devices Using Brain-Computer Interface Technology - Terminology" medical device industry standard.This is the first brain-computer interface medical device standard in China, laying the foundation for the high-quality development of the brain-computer interface medical device industry.The standard will be officially implemented on January 1, 2026, defining the terms and definitions of medical devices adopting brain-computer interface technology (referred to as brain-computer interface medical devices).

As a cutting-edge technology, brain-computer interface has been gaining increasing attention in recent years. In terms of policy, in August this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and six other departments jointly issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Innovative Development of the Brain-Computer Interface Industry."

It was proposed that by 2027, China will make breakthroughs in key brain-computer interface technologies, initially establishing advanced technology, industry, and standard systems. The application of brain-computer interface products will accelerate, the industry scale will continue to grow, creating 2 to 3 industrial development clusters while exploring a range of new scenarios, models, and business forms. By 2030, innovation capabilities in the brain-computer interface industry will significantly improve, forming a secure and reliable industrial system, building an internationally competitive industrial ecosystem, and advancing comprehensive strength into the world's forefront.
