Insulin Developer and Manufacturer
Intelligent Finance APP learned that a weekly injectable diabetes drug from Novo Nordisk (NVO.US) has received EU approval, offering patients another treatment option. The European Medicines Agency's drug review panel recommended the approval of Kyinsu for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. This combination injection, consisting of insulin and semaglutide (the active ingredient in Novo Nordisk's best-selling weight loss drug Ozempic), is also known as IcoSema.
The trial of the drug shows that it helps type 2 diabetes patients control their weight and lower blood sugar more effectively than daily insulin injections. This drug is also beneficial for patients who are unable to control diabetes through daily insulin injections.
The long-acting insulin portion of the drug was previously rejected for approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration because the agency requested more detailed information about the production process and Type 1 diabetes indications.
