On September 23, according to Novo Nordisk, *The New England Journal of Medicine* recently published the results from the Phase 3 trial OASIS 4. This trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of the investigational once-daily oral semaglutide 25mg (Wegovy® tablets).

In this 64-week trial, oral semaglutide tablets 25mg in combination with lifestyle intervention were compared to placebo in 307 adult patients who were obese or overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity but without diabetes.

Results showed that at 64 weeks, with all patients adhering to the treatment, the group taking oral semaglutide tablets (25mg) achieved an average weight loss of 16.6%, compared to 2.7% in the placebo group; more than one-third (34.4%) of patients in the oral semaglutide tablets (25mg) group achieved a weight loss of 20% or more.

When evaluating efficacy without considering patient compliance, patients in the oral semaglutide 25mg group still achieved an average weight loss of 13.6%, compared to 2.2% in the placebo group.

In February this year, Novo Nordisk submitted a new drug application to the U.S. FDA for the once-daily Wegovy® oral tablet, with the FDA expected to complete the review by the end of this year. Currently, no GLP-1 oral tablets for weight loss have been approved.
