From September 23 to 27, the 25th China International Industry Fair was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). As an important featured section of this year's fair, the bio-manufacturing special exhibition area debuted in Hall 7.2H, focusing on synthetic biology and bio-manufacturing. It systematically showcased cutting-edge advancements in fundamental research, industrial transformation, and technological equipment, highlighting China's comprehensive strength and forward-looking development in this field. The exhibition area brought together 24 representative companies and parks for a joint exhibition, demonstrating the application and development potential of bio-manufacturing technologies across various fields.

According to the introduction, this year's bio-manufacturing exhibition innovatively adopts a "park + key enterprises" joint exhibition format, systematically presenting the entire industrial chain ecosystem from regional clusters, scientific research breakthroughs to end-user applications. Park institutions such as Zhangjiang Group and Nanda Development & Construction Company, along with their resident enterprises, jointly exhibit to collectively showcase the cluster effect and regional innovation ecosystem of Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region, highlighting the development path of integrating scientific research achievements with industrial implementation.

Among the exhibitors, DiBiBio and Zelixir, as representatives selected for the first batch of typical cases of artificial intelligence in the biomanufacturing field by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), showcased their intelligent bioreactor systems and AI-accelerated synthetic biology and drug discovery platforms, respectively, highlighting the cutting-edge breakthroughs in the integration and innovation of "AI + biomanufacturing." Key companies such as Polycore Biotech, Mabwell, and Opdima Biotech also presented their latest advancements in key product development and industrial application.

In addition, companies such as Shenghe Wanwu (Shanghai) Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Sipeng Technology, Meiankang, Hannuowei, Ennokite, and Hengrun Dason have showcased innovative achievements and service capabilities in multiple fields including innovative drugs, novel raw materials, and testing services, jointly constructing a panoramic application map of biomanufacturing technologies.

From September 24 to 25, the 2025 BioManufacturing Innovation Forum, themed "Intelligent Biomanufacturing Empowering Future Industries," was held concurrently. The forum featured three main sections: the BioManufacturing Innovation Main Forum, the Intelligent Technology Empowering Biomanufacturing Forum, and the BioManufacturing Industrial Application Forum. It invited top experts and industry leaders to engage in in-depth discussions, jointly exploring industry trends, opportunities, and challenges, while providing insights and recommendations for the high-quality development of China's biomanufacturing sector.

At the 2025 Bio-Manufacturing Innovation Forum, the Shanghai Synthetic Biology Industry Association, in collaboration with the internationally renowned consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, jointly releasedShanghai Synthetic Biology and Biomanufacturing Industry Development White Paper (2025). Based on a half-year in-depth research and enterprise interviews, this white paper integrates international experience with local practice, systematically outlining the policy environment, industrial chain status, and future trends of global and Chinese synthetic biology manufacturing.

To further promote technological breakthroughs and innovative practices in the field of bio-manufacturing, this year's Industry Expo has established the "CIIF Bio-Manufacturing Special Award" to recognize companies and teams that have excelled in technology research and development, application innovation, and industrial advancement. The award attracted enthusiastic applications from over 20 leading companies in the industry. After multiple rounds of rigorous evaluation, six outstanding enterprises emerged as the final winners.

Among them,Kangma Biotech won the highest honor of this year's CIIF Grand Prize with its breakthrough cell-free protein expression technology. This technology achieves highly efficient expression of biopharmaceutical active proteins without the need for living cells, targeting a billion-dollar biopharmaceutical market and completing a major breakthrough in foundational manufacturing technology.

At the same time,Changjin Biotech, Guiyi Technology, Hengrun Dason, Shenghe Wanwu, and Sipeng Technology, five member units, jointly received the Special Award for Biomanufacturing at the 25th China International Industry Fair. They have achieved remarkable results and applications in the fields of food microbial protein, agricultural biotechnology, cell therapy drugs, natural compound synthesis, and bio-based materials, demonstrating the diverse breakthroughs and vigorous vitality of the biomanufacturing industry.

Preview for Tomorrow:On the afternoon of September 25, the "Forum on Industrial Application of Biomanufacturing" will continue to explore the implementation pathways and commercial prospects of biomanufacturing in fields such as pharmaceuticals, chemical engineering, and agriculture. Stay tuned for more exciting discussions!
