JINAN, China — Shandong YingSheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., a Chinese clinical mass-spectrometry company, has earned a coveted place on Shandong Province's First Set of Technical Equipment list — a provincial designation that signals the country's push to replace imported high-end analytical instruments with homegrown alternatives.

The Shandong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology announced the 2026 cohort on Oct. 14. Yingsheng Biology's self-developed liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) system made the cut, recognized for what the province described as significant technological innovation and performance advantages.

The selection is more than a provincial honor. It represents a milestone in China's broader campaign to build domestic capability in mass spectrometry — a field long dominated by Western instrument makers such as Thermo Fisher Scientific, Danaher's SCIEX, and Waters Corp.

Yingsheng Biology said its LC-MS/MS system has reached "internationally advanced" technical standards, marking what the company called a critical breakthrough in the domestic substitution of high-end analytical equipment. The First Set certification, the company added, is both an authoritative endorsement from Shandong Province of its capacity for independent innovation and further proof of its benchmark position in China's mass-spectrometry equipment localization effort.

Shandong's First Set of Technical Equipment program is designed to encourage companies to break through core technological bottlenecks, cultivate what Beijing calls "new quality productive forces," and propel the manufacturing sector up the value chain. For Yingsheng, the selection validates more than a decade of sustained R&D investment — and, the company suggested, will serve as a springboard for its next wave of innovation.

By the numbers: Yingsheng Biology operates across four mass-spectrometry technology platforms — LC-MS/MS, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), nucleic-acid mass spectrometry, and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The company holds more than 50 Class II and Class III medical-device registration certificates in China and nearly 40 CE certificates for mass-spectrometry reagents. It has also secured multiple national patents and passed ISO 13485:2016 certification for its medical-device quality-management system.

Founded over a decade ago, Yingsheng Biology has built an integrated chain spanning hardware platforms, software systems, and supporting reagents and consumables — positioning itself as one of the few Chinese companies offering end-to-end clinical mass-spectrometry solutions. The company was an early mover in China's clinical mass-spectrometry market, launching what it described as the country's first vitamin 14-item assay kit based on an LC-MS/MS platform.
