September 29,GlaxoSmithKline PLC.(GSK) announced,Dame Emma Walmsley to Step Down After 9 Years at the HelmOfChief Executive OfficerOne position will be succeeded by insider Luke Miels.At that time, Mr. Miels will serve as the Chief Executive Officer and join the Board of Directors.

Since being appointed CEO in 2017, Ms. Emma Walmsley has led the strategic transformation of GSK, achieving comprehensive upgrades in operational performance, portfolio, and R&D pipeline. She has driven the company to focus on specialty medicines and vaccines, successfully launching several key new products and revamping the R&D system. Under her leadership, GSK’s R&D pipeline has been revitalized, now featuring 15 high-priority projects expected to come to market between 2025 and 2031.
In addition, Ms. Walmsley also led the completion of the spin-off of the consumer healthcare business, establishing the independent company Haleon, further optimizing GSK's balance sheet, and making the company's business structure more focused and its financial foundation more robust.

Luke Miels, who is about to take office, joined GSK in 2017. Prior to this, he held senior management positions at several multinational pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, Roche, and Sanofi-Aventis, accumulating extensive experience in global pharmaceutical commercialization and strategic management. During his tenure as GSK's Chief Commercial Officer, he was responsible for the company’s global pharmaceuticals and vaccines business and played a key role in building GSK's specialty portfolio in critical therapeutic areas such as oncology and respiratory diseases.
This handover marks that while GSK continues to strengthen its strategic focus on specialty medicines and vaccines, it will also rely on internally cultivated leadership to ensure a smooth transition from transformation planning to deep commercialization.
