Comprehensive Solution Provider for Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment
In a move timed to coincide with China's National Day celebrations, Neusoft Medical Systems Co., Ltd. announced that two of its next-generation photon-counting computed tomography (CT) scanners have received regulatory approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), marking a significant milestone in the domestic medical imaging industry.
The NeuPhotonix E317 All-round Edition and the NeuPhotonix E319 High-end Research AI Edition, both built on an 8-centimeter wide-body photon-counting hardware platform, join the previously launched NeuViz P10 to form what the company describes as China's first complete three-model product family in the photon-counting CT segment.
Photon-counting CT represents what industry observers consider a generational leap in medical imaging technology. The systems count individual X-ray photons and identify their energy levels, enabling ultra-high-resolution imaging, substantially lower radiation doses, and native multi-energy spectrum capabilities. These attributes are particularly valuable for early screening and precision diagnosis of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory conditions.
The technology has long been dominated by overseas manufacturers, with high barriers to entry keeping China's high-end photon-counting CT market reliant on imported equipment. Neusoft Medical's latest approvals signal a shift toward domestic capability at scale.
The company's decade-long development arc began in 2016 with the launch of its photon-counting CT research program. Key milestones followed: a breakthrough in cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detector core modules in 2018, the reconstruction of the company's first high-quality photon-counting CT image in 2022, and the NMPA approval of the NeuViz P10 in August 2025.
The three-model lineup is designed to address distinct tiers of the Chinese healthcare system. The NeuPhotonix E317 targets municipal-level tertiary hospitals, pairing a NeuSpace basic post-processing system with routine AI applications. It supports optional advanced features including respiratory gating, a 2048-pixel matrix, and patient monitoring. The company says the model can be deployed through multi-product bundling arrangements, lowering the barrier to adoption for regional hospitals.
The NeuPhotonix E319, by contrast, is positioned for well-funded institutions including national and regional medical centers, oncology specialty hospitals, and research-oriented facilities. It features an ultra-high rotation speed of 0.221 seconds, a 610-millimeter large scan field of view, respiratory gating, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) specialty analysis, a 2048 high-definition matrix, telescopic-arm AI-assisted patient positioning, patient movement monitoring, and A-Touch palm-based operation controls. The system also includes large-capacity storage, a full research platform, specialty disease databases, and deep vascular AI applications, making it suitable for multi-cancer screening, refined pulmonary nodule assessment, and frontier medical research.
Together with the NeuViz P10, which bridges clinical and research applications, the three models cover a spectrum from municipal tertiary hospitals to national medical centers — a tiered product structure that Neusoft Medical says fills a gap in China's domestic photon-counting CT offerings.
Commercial traction is already underway. The NeuViz P10 entered mass production and delivery in May 2026 and has since been installed at seven well-known tertiary hospitals across China. The company has deepened clinical partnerships with institutions including West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, and the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University.
In August 2026, Neusoft Medical partnered with seven hospitals to establish the Photon CT Full-Domain Vascular Digital Twin Committee, bringing together research and industry collaborators to explore the technology's clinical potential. The initiative focuses on multi-energy spectrum imaging combined with hemodynamic analysis and artificial intelligence, targeting cardiovascular and oncology applications.
"Last year, China's domestic photon-counting CT achieved a breakthrough from zero to one. Now we are entering the era of a multi-model, full-matrix product lineup," a Neusoft Medical spokesperson said. "We are not just building a single high-end photon CT device — we are building complete solutions adapted to the real clinical workflows of Chinese hospitals."
The company says it will continue to invest in core technology iteration for photon-counting CT, refine AI-powered specialty disease applications and spectral imaging research toolchains, and leverage the industrial resources of its parent, General Technology Group, a central state-owned enterprise.
