October 14, 2025TakedaAnnouncementNabla Bio Signs Second Multi-Year Collaboration Agreement to Deepen Partnership in AI-Driven Protein Therapeutics Design
As early as May 14 last year,Nabla Bio, Inc. announced strategic collaborations with AstraZeneca, BMS, and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, with upfront and milestone payments exceeding $550 million.
According to the terms of this agreement, Nabla will receive an upfront payment and research funding support in the tens of millions of dollars, and has the opportunity to obtain milestone payments totaling over 1 billion dollars based on the success of the project.
This collaboration will extensively apply the core technology platform of Nabla Bio, Inc.Joint Atomic Model (JAM), applied in Takeda's early R&D projects for parallel antibody design, multi-specific drug design, tackling difficult targets, and customized protein therapies.
JAM is an artificial intelligence (AI) protein design system. This system is capable of de novo designing high-quality lead antibodies by only providing the amino acid sequence and/or structure of the target protein.
According to its official website, this system is capable of designing therapeutic antibodies that precisely bind to specific epitopes of target proteins with high affinity and excellent early-stage development potential, all without the need for experimental optimization. The entire process from antibody design to recombinant protein characterization takes less than six weeks.
Not only does it take less time, but the company also applies JAM to a set ofMulti-pass transmembrane protein, such proteins are generally considered difficult to drug. The study results show,The JAM system successfully designed antibodies from scratch for these targets, including the first fully computationally designed binding molecules targeting Claudin-4 (CLDN4) and G protein-coupled receptor CXCR7.
Nabla Bio was founded inIn 2020,And completed an $11 million financing round in 2021. At that time, Nabla Bio also announced five collaborations with unnamed large pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to demonstrate technical feasibility. This renewed collaboration with Takeda has once again placed this AI-driven drug discovery newcomer in the spotlight.
