Tongji Hospital and Qiongding Medical Launch Joint R&D Initiative for a Novel Brain-Computer Interface Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease Under Dual-PI (Clinician + Engineer) Model

On October 8, the Strategic Seminar on Brain-Computer Interface and the First Working Meeting of the Research Institute were successfully held at Tongji Hospital, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. During the meeting, the hospital released the strategic development blueprint for brain-computer interfaces and officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chinese brain-computer interface company "Neurodome, Inc.", marking another important link in the collaborative innovation chain between the hospital and enterprises.

This time, Tongji Hospital and Neurodome will continue to jointly develop new brain-computer interface solutions for Parkinson's treatment under the "clinician + engineer" dual-PI (Principal Investigator) system, conducting clinical research trials to verify their safety and efficacy.

Hu Junbo, President of Tongji Hospital, saidDeveloping brain-computer interface technology is an urgent need to serve the major strategic demands of the country and achieve high-level technological self-reliance and strength.Tongji Hospital has built a new closed-loop transformation paradigm with four spiraling and dynamically evolving links: "demand-driven, technology-powered, standardized validation, and value realization."

Tang Zhouping, Party Secretary of Tongji Hospital, emphasized that only by starting from clinical practice can we return to clinical practice. Tongji Hospital has systematically identified the clinical pain points of major neuropsychiatric system diseases such as stroke, spinal cord injury, epilepsy, ALS, and depression, forming a detailed "needs list" and will carry out targeted technological research.

It is reported that Tongji Hospital, relying on a comprehensive GCP (Good Clinical Practice) platform and ethical review system, has provided full-process support for 15 brain-computer interface clinical research projects, forming one of the largest brain-computer interface clinical research clusters in China with the widest coverage of diseases.At the same time, the hospital has been approved to establish the first "Brain-Computer Interface Medical Insurance Data Research Center" in China, to conduct research on incorporating innovative technologies into the medical insurance payment system, and to打通从技术到惠民的“最后一公里”.
