Developer of Innovative Drug R&D Platform

Drug Discovery Service Provider

Recently, BioMap and Xellar Biosystems, two portfolio companies of Legend Capital, officially signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. The two parties will combine BioMap’s capabilities in foundational large models for life sciences and AI R&D platforms with Xellar Biosystems’ expertise in organ-on-a-chip technology, high-content 3D imaging, and drug development experimental systems.Engage in deep collaboration centered on “AI + Organ-on-a-Chip” to jointly explore a closed-loop R&D system that transforms high-quality wet-lab data into large-model predictions and intelligent decision-making, thereby driving the development of innovative drugs toward greater intelligence and efficiency.

As foundational large models in the life sciences continue to evolve, AI is advancing from molecular and protein-level analysis toward a deeper understanding of cells, tissues, and complex biological systems. However, enhancing model capabilities requires greater support from high-quality, standardized biological data.
BioMap leverages its 268-billion-parameter foundational life science large model, xTrimo, as its technological backbone, possessing robust capabilities in learning and predicting life science principles. It achieves a closed-loop integration of computational predictions and experimental validation through its AI-driven discovery system, BioMap OS. Meanwhile, Xellar Biosystems relies on organ-on-a-chip technology, high-content 3D imaging, and AI-based phenotypic analysis to continuously generate multimodal drug response data. This collaboration will further integrate the capabilities of both parties in “AI computing” and “wet lab experiments,” exploring new intelligent models for drug discovery and development.
Focus on Three Major Directions
TotalEstablish an “AI + Organ-on-a-Chip” R&D System
Co-establishment of a Joint Laboratory. The two parties will conduct joint research on organ-on-a-chip wet-lab data and foundational large models for life sciences, exploring applications such as phenotype prediction and drug response assessment, to promote the formation of a “wet-dry” closed loop of “experiment–model–validation.”
Jointly develop a virtual organ/virtual cell prediction platform. Both parties will explore the use of large models to predict drug molecule responses in different organ-on-a-chip models, gradually establishing an R&D model of "virtual screening first, followed by chip validation."
Jointly Build a High-Quality Multimodal Database. Both parties will continuously accumulate data on drug responses, high-content 3D imaging, and multi-omics, and through the continuous iteration of data and models, establish a data-driven R&D closed loop.
This strategic collaboration represents an exploration into the deeper integration of foundational large models for life sciences with organ-on-a-chip technology. Moving forward, both parties will continue to leverage their respective strengths to promote the deep integration of real-world biological data with AI predictive capabilities, thereby providing more efficient technical pathways for innovative drug discovery, as well as efficacy and safety evaluation.
Liu Wei, Co-founder and CEO of BioMap, stated:
BioMap has long focused on upstream novel experimental technologies such as organ-on-a-chip, automated experimentation, and high-content imaging, and has established collaborations with multiple experimental technology companies and instrument platforms. We aim to leverage foundational large models in life sciences as a universal base to further amplify and consolidate our partners’ advantages in experimental systems, instruments, and data into sustainably accumulative data assets and reusable AI models, thereby serving broader R&D scenarios such as drug screening, efficacy evaluation, and safety assessment. Through this strategic collaboration, BioMap will provide its foundational large model platform and model-building capabilities to jointly build a high-quality multimodal database with Xellar Biosystems, develop AI models for applications such as drug response prediction in organ-on-a-chip systems, and explore a continuous iterative closed-loop framework.
Dr. Xie Xin, Founder and CEO of Xellar Biosystems, stated:
As organ-on-a-chip technology continues to mature, we are accumulating an increasingly rich array of high-dimensional biological data. How to further uncover patterns from this data and develop predictive capabilities is a critical challenge for advancing organ-on-a-chip technology to the next stage. BioMap possesses leading technical capabilities in the field of foundational large models for life sciences. This strategic partnership will provide an opportunity to further integrate the understanding and predictive power of large models into the organ-on-a-chip R&D system, enabling organ-on-a-chip not only to "observe"”drug effects, enabling a gradual shift toward "prediction"”and "decision-making”. We look forward to both parties fully leveraging their respective strengths to jointly explore next-generation intelligent infrastructure for drug discovery and development.
