A Chinese pharmaceutical company is betting that a first-of-its-kind injectable drug could fill a significant gap in the global market for treating life-threatening stomach bleeding.
Luoxin Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced on August 25 that its experimental drug LX22001 has met the primary endpoint in a Phase II clinical trial, marking a critical milestone in the development of what could become the world's first injectable potassium-competitive acid blocker, or P-CAB.
The injectable form uses the same active ingredient as Luoxin's already marketed Tegoprazan tablets, but targets more severe conditions: bleeding from peptic ulcers and the prevention of stress-related stomach bleeding in critically ill patients. Currently, no injectable P-CAB product exists on the global market.
The trial is complete. The company confirmed that all Phase II subjects were enrolled by April 2026, follow-up has concluded, the database is locked, and the clinical study report is finalized. The trial successfully reached its primary endpoint, though the company has not yet disclosed the detailed efficacy and safety data.
Luoxin said it is now evaluating the clinical data alongside market conditions and resource allocation before determining next steps. Any decision on further development will be announced in due course.
Financial momentum. The pharmaceutical company, which specializes in chemical preparations, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and traditional Chinese medicine, reported solid first-half 2026 results. Total revenue reached RMB 1.147 billion, up 6.52% year-over-year. Net profit attributable to parent company shareholders jumped to RMB 49.93 million, a 182.19% increase from the prior year. Operating cash flow surged 42.37% to RMB 310 million.
The Phase II success positions LX22001 for potential advancement into later-stage trials. If approved, the drug could address an unmet need in hospital settings where rapid-acting intravenous acid suppression is critical for patients facing gastrointestinal bleeding emergencies.
For now, investors and clinicians alike will be watching to see whether Luoxin moves quickly to capitalize on this early win — and whether the data supports the commercial promise of a global first.
