Guandian News:On Wednesday local time, U.S. healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had granted its surgicalRobotOttava marketing authorization marks the company’s official entry into the soft-tissue robotic-assisted surgery market.

This is a significant milestone for Johnson & Johnson MedTech.

For years, Johnson & Johnson has sought to compete with industry leader Intuitive Surgical in the field of robot-assisted surgery. With Ottava’s approval, it will directly compete with Intuitive’s da Vinci surgical robot.

Currently, the global market for soft-tissue surgical robots is predominantly dominated by Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci Surgical System. Additionally, Medtronic’s Hugo robotic system received regulatory approval last year.

In the market, during U.S. stock trading hours, Johnson & Johnson's stock price rose nearly 2%.

It is important to note that obtaining FDA marketing authorization means the product is approved for sale in the U.S. market, but Ottava still has some time before large-scale commercialization, and the specific pace of volume ramp-up remains uncertain.
