China Finance and Economics News, November 8th: Yesterday at the "8th China International Import Expo (CIIE)," Medtronic's Neurointervention Division hosted a special event themed "Two Decades of Dedication, Advancing Towards Beauty," and officially launched the "Stroke Awareness Week" advocacy campaign.
Stroke is one of the diseases with the highest mortality and disability rates in China. According to statistics, there are approximately 4.5 million new cases each year, with ischemic stroke accounting for over 80%. The high incidence and treatment burden have made stroke a key focus of prevention and control in the "Healthy China 2030" strategy and the "Million Disability Reduction Project."

Professor Miao Zhongrong from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, stated that mechanical thrombectomy has witnessed a decade of progress in the treatment of ischemic stroke in China. From its initial exploratory application to now becoming a standard step in stroke green channels, thrombectomy therapy has allowed more patients to regain their lives within the golden time window. "With the continuous improvement of equipment performance and more precise operational pathways, we have reason to believe that the time for stroke treatment will be further reduced, and treatment outcomes will continue to improve."
Professor Yang Pengfei from the First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University pointed out, "The implementation of the 'Million Reduction in Residual Disability Project' has driven China's stroke prevention and treatment system from 'scale expansion' towards 'quality improvement'. Currently, a three-level treatment network covering medical institutions at different levels has been established nationwide. Substantial progress has been made in the standardized application of neurointerventional technology, early rehabilitation intervention, and long-term follow-up management. 'Although disparities in resources between regions still exist, through information platforms and remote collaboration, we are accelerating the distribution of high-quality resources to lower levels, gradually building a stroke prevention and control system that covers the entire region.'"
According to reports, Medtronic pioneered the field of aneurysm flow diversion therapy and was the first to introduce the concept of "flow remodeling" into the treatment of cerebral aneurysms. Its Pipeline Flow Diversion Therapy has been introduced in the Chinese market for a decade. To date, it has provided healing opportunities for more than 250,000 patients globally and over 40,000 patients in China.
At this year's CIIE, Medtronic showcased the fourth-generation Pipeline Vantage Embolization Device with Shield Technology, a surface-modified flow-diverting stent. Ding Shaojie, Senior Marketing Manager of Medtronic's Neurointervention Division, introduced that the new-generation product adopts an innovative phosphorylcholine polymer surface modification technology, forming a "biomimetic camouflage layer" on the metal stent surface. This effectively reduces the risk of thrombosis and enhances biocompatibility, providing a safer and more precise solution for hemorrhagic stroke treatment.
While continuously innovating, Medtronic Neurointervention constantly enhances its product portfolio, building systematic solutions covering the entire stroke care pathway: from the Solitaire X Revascularization Device for ischemic stroke emergency treatment, to the Onyx Liquid Embolic System for cerebral vascular malformations, to the cost-effective localized product, Mynx.™Mechanically detachable coils, and the Pipeline Flow Diverter stent, which leads in the treatment of hemorrhagic stroke —— a diversified product portfolio working synergistically to provide doctors with safe, precise, and reliable clinical options.
