Tongji University Affiliated Yangpu Hospital Successfully Completes One of China's First RhythPulse® PFA Ablations for Atrial Fibrillation

This case involves a middle-aged male patient who has long been troubled by atrial fibrillation. Traditional drug treatments have not been effective, and the repeated episodes of atrial fibrillation have severely impacted his quality of life. The electrophysiology team led by Professor Chen Nannan from the Cardiology Department of Yangpu Hospital, affiliated with Tongji University in Shanghai, conducted a thorough analysis and multidisciplinary discussion to evaluate the case. They decided to use the latest Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) technology to perform atrial fibrillation surgery on the patient.

PFA surgery was performed under general anesthesia. The patient was placed in the supine position, followed by routine disinfection and draping. The puncture site was locally anesthetized with 2% lidocaine. The right femoral vein was punctured twice successively to place the coronary sinus electrode. After successful transseptal puncture, heparin was administered for systemic heparinization. Complete isolation of 100% of the four pulmonary veins was achieved, and pacing verification confirmed bidirectional conduction block in both sides of the pulmonary veins. The operation lasted only 31 minutes, with no complications throughout, and the surgery was successfully completed.
