The rechargeable, perceptual closed-loop brain stimulator Percept™ RC, developed by the global medical technology company Medtronic, integrates artificial intelligence and brain-computer interface technology. The world's first brain pacemaker system approved by China's NMPA, the U.S. FDA, and the EU CE, featuring rechargeability, sensing capability, directional stimulation, and compatibility with both 3.0T and 1.5T full-body MRI scans., used forTreatmentParkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and drug-resistant epilepsyAnd other complex neurological disorders. The product has recently been"2025 Invention of the Year" by TIME Magazine, and as a "star exhibit" consecutively appeared at the 2024 and 2025 China International Import Expo, receiving extensive media coverage and patient attention.
From the CIIE stage to patients, the clinical application of Percept™ RC marks a major breakthrough in brain pacemaker treatment. This has advanced the application of brain-computer interface technology in China for treating neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, ushering in a new era of neuromodulation and brain-computer interface technology to improve human health, and offering Chinese patients smarter, more precise, long-term, and comfortable treatment options.

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), commonly known as the "brain pacemaker," involves electrodes implanted in the brain that emit electrical pulses to stimulate specific nuclei deep within the brain, thereby alleviating patients' symptoms. It is currently the internationally recognized preferred surgical treatment for Parkinson's disease. In 1987, Medtronic, in collaboration with Professor Benabid, a French neurosurgeon, successfully performed the world’s first DBS surgery. This therapy officially entered China in 1999 and, to date, has been clinically applied globally for over 35 years.

Compared with traditional brain pacemakers that can only provide one-way treatment, the rechargeable and perceptible closed-loop brain pacemaker Percept™ RC integrates artificial intelligence and brain-computer interface technology to sense and analyze patients' brain electrical activities in real time, allowing treatment to be more aligned with patients’ condition changes and needs, achieving personalized precision treatment.
Moreover, the all-around technological breakthroughs of Percept™ RC have also brought patients a higher quality treatment experience:The world's smallest and thinnest brain pacemaker,37% smaller than traditional brain pacemakers, providing patients with a more comfortable implant experience; extended lifespan, utilizing Medtronic's Overdrive™ patented battery technology and special lithium titanate battery materials to ensure long-term, safe, and stable treatment for patients; unconditionally approved for full-body 3.0T & 1.5T MRI compatibility without time restrictions on scanning, safeguarding patients' future rights and safety when undergoing MRI examinations; combined with the SenSight™ directional lead, unlocking more flexible and diverse programming functions to achieve "maximized efficacy and minimized side effects."
As a witness, participant, and contributor to the rapid development of China's healthcare industry, Medtronic has always been "In China, For China," continuously and acceleratingly introducing innovative cutting-edge technologies. We look forward to the arrival of this revolutionary product empowering the clinical diagnosis and treatment of nervous system diseases and the research on disease mechanisms, alleviating the suffering, restoring the health, and extending the life of the vast number of patients tormented by Parkinson's disease and other ailments.
