Artificial Heart Series Product Developer
Recently, Shenzhen Core Medical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Core Medical") announced that the Corheart® 6 Implantable Left Ventricular Assist System successfully completed its 1,000th clinical implantation. This product will become the second globally and the first in China to reach this milestone among third-generation fully magnetically levitated artificial hearts, following Abbott's HeartMate 3. The breakthrough of over a thousand implants marks that China has not only successfully broken the long-term technological monopoly in the artificial heart field but also demonstrated that Chinese innovative enterprises are solidifying their leading position in the global top tier with a complete industrial layout.
Artificial Heart: As one of the ultimate means for treating end-stage heart failure, it is faced with extremely high technical barriers, and its global market has long been monopolized by international giants. The evolution of the technology has gone through three generations: from the initial pulsatile pump, to the second-generation axial flow pump, and now to the most advanced third-generation fully magnetically levitated centrifugal pump. Each iteration has focused on achieving better blood compatibility, lower complication rates, and smaller pump sizes. Among these, miniaturization, lightweight design, and high blood compatibility have become the core directions pursued by both technology and clinical practice.
The key to Core Medical breaking the monopoly lies in its groundbreaking proposal of "Time-Division and Region-Division Dynamic Axial Full Magnetic Suspension Control Technology," which has been successfully applied in the field of artificial hearts. This innovation in underlying technology has enabled the "Chinese heart" to rival world-leading products.
Based on this technology, Corheart® 6 has achieved significant advantages in miniaturization and integration, completing a systematic optimization closed loop of "performance-clinical-experience." This allows Corheart® 6 to provide a large flow support of 10L/min while being 40% lighter and 30% smaller in volume compared to mainstream international products. Additionally, it reaches internationally leading levels in blood compatibility and power consumption control.
This technological advantage directly translates into significant clinical benefits. The smaller implant volume allows for a smaller surgical incision, which not only reduces surgical trauma for patients but also speeds up postoperative recovery. At the same time, the ingenious magnetic levitation design and optimized blood flow field effectively reduce the risk of thrombosis caused by heat accumulation in the blood pump, enhancing the long-term safety of the product.
The outstanding performance of the product has been fully validated by authoritative data. According to the evaluation materials from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), "Corheart® 6 has a simpler structure, lighter weight, smaller size, and lower power consumption. In clinical applications, it results in smaller surgical incisions, faster patient recovery, a broader applicable population, and reduces the risk of thrombosis caused by blood pump heat." Additionally, at the 2025 Tongji International Cardiovascular Conference and the Chinese Biomedical Engineering Conference, data released by Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, showed that Corheart® 6 captured 46% of the domestic market share in its first year on the market, and by 2025, it exceeded 50%, firmly ranking first in China’s artificial heart field.
Notably, the miniaturization technology of Corheart® 6 has successfully broken through the "adult-to-child" compatibility barrier. To date, this product has been successfully implanted in more than 30 pediatric heart failure patients, demonstrating broad clinical applicability and offering new hope for children with heart failure worldwide.
From Technical Breakthrough to Industry Benchmark: The Thousand Implants of Corheart® 6 Represent a Model Case of Independent Innovation and Commercial Implementation in China's High-End Medical Equipment Industry, Marking a Historic Leap for "Made in China" from "Catching Up" to "Running Neck-and-Neck" and Even "Leading the Pack" in the Global High-End Medical Equipment Landscape.
