VCBeat (WeChat: vcbeat) has learned that the inaugural China-UK Cancer Conference, co-hosted by the National Cancer Center of China and the British Embassy in China, was held at the Jianguo International Conference Center in Beijing on June 25–26, 2018.

On the morning of the first day of the conference, the China National Cancer Center (CNCC), Digital China Healthcare Technology Co., Ltd. (DCHealth), and the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) of Public Health England jointly signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement aims to promote multi-dimensional academic collaboration between China and the United Kingdom in areas such as research and exchange, consultation, and training related to the development of oncology big data platforms.

Academician He Jie, Director of the National Cancer Center of China; Her Excellency Dame Barbara Woodward, British Ambassador to China; and Mr. Guo Wei, Chairman of the Board of Digital China Holdings Limited, served as witnesses to this historic moment. Mr. Ma Jianhui, Assistant to the President of the National Cancer Center; Mr. Jem Rashbass, Director of the National Registration and Cancer Analysis Centre at Public Health England; and Mr. Shi Wenzhao, President of Digital China Medical Technology Co., Ltd., signed the agreement respectively.

Over the past decade, NCRAS has collected data on more than 500,000 cancer patients annually, including demographic information and complete medical records, making it the world’s largest cancer patient data collection organization and a leading global cancer registry.

The National Oncology Big Data Platform’s “One Database, One Network” project, initiated by the National Cancer Center of China and constructed by Digital China Medical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Digital China Medical”), promotes cross-disciplinary and cross-industry data integration and collaborative innovation by sharing and consolidating clinical information related to malignant tumors, thereby providing robust data support for the transformation and development of the healthcare industry.

The “One Database, One Network” project aims to establish a national-level clinical big data network for oncology, covering 30 provincial cancer hospitals, 128 municipal cancer hospitals, and 3,000 oncology departments across China. It seeks to build a “national-level, standardized, and shareable” clinical big data platform, and to conduct research on the processing, analysis, and application of clinical big data based on this platform.

In terms of data platform development, data curation, and sharing, the Chinese side can learn from and draw on the UK’s experience. On the other hand, Shenzhou Medical possesses robust capabilities in data analytics and processing large-scale datasets, enabling it to promote its technical expertise in building the China Oncology Big Data Center. This can help the UK side improve registry efficiency, reduce reliance on manual labor, and control costs.

We are confident that, through the unremitting efforts of the Chinese and British governments and Shenzhou Medical, the respective strengths of all three parties will be fully leveraged to create a synergistic force, helping countries worldwide address the increasingly severe challenges posed by malignant tumors.

Following the signing ceremony, Mr. Guo Wei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Digital China Holdings Limited, delivered an academic presentation titled “Digital China Healthcare Empowering Healthy China.” Dr. Jem Rashbass, Director of the National Disease Registration and Analysis Service at Public Health England, presented on “The National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service in England: Providing Data on Cancer Prevention and Treatment for Public Health and Personalized Medicine.” Dr. Shi Wenzhao, President of Digital China Medical Technology Co., Ltd., gave a presentation titled “Leveraging Big Data to Enhance Oncology Diagnosis and Treatment Technologies.”
