Future Medical College Unveiled Amid Emerging Future Hospital Landscape, Files IPO Prospectus

Jul 17, 2018 14:21 CST Updated 14:21

2018 was a pivotal year in the development of internet hospitals, with the National Health Commission’s “Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of ‘Internet + Medical Health’” leaving an indelible mark on the history of internet hospital development.

Keeping pace with the times, on July 12, Alibaba Cloud successfully held the satellite symposium “Computing for Healthcare, Healthy China: Co-creating the Future of Medical Care through Data Intelligence” at the China Hospital Information Network Association (CHIMA) Conference in Guiyang. Leveraging its leading technological capabilities in cloud computing, security, and big data, Alibaba Cloud’s Healthcare Division launched solutions including hospital hybrid cloud security, imaging cloud, telemedicine, cloud-based HIS, and big data cloud platforms, establishing benchmark cases and jointly building a partner ecosystem.

The conference invited guests such as Huang Hao, Director of the Information Center at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University; Yuan Fang, Director of the Information Center at Yinchuan First People's Hospital; Kuang Hua, CEO of Shanghai Liankong Network Technology Co., Ltd.; and the Chief Architect of Alibaba Cloud's Healthcare Division, to jointly discuss the vision for future hospitals.During the conference, Tang Chao, General Manager of Alibaba Cloud’s Healthcare Division, and Liu Huiguang, CEO of VCBeat, announced the official establishment of the Future Medical Academy, jointly created by Alibaba Cloud and VCBeat!

Huang Hao, Director of the Information Center at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University, first addressed the issue of hospital data security. Director Huang believes that in the era of big data, even a closed-loop hospital intranet is not absolutely secure. Hospitals must prioritize data security, reconstruct their security frameworks, and enhance the de-identification processing of research data outputs. Director Huang has been continuously studying and integrating various cybersecurity regulations and hopes that all stakeholders involved in hospital operations will attach greater importance to the issue of hospital data security.

Subsequently, Yuan Fang, Director of the Information Center at Yinchuan First People's Hospital, delivered a keynote speech titled “Building a New Model of ‘Internet + Healthcare’” and shared insights into the operational challenges and experiences of the Yinchuan Smart Internet Hospital. Director Yuan emphasized that the key to developing a successful internet hospital platform lies in establishing robust underlying services to ensure a seamless user experience for patients. This should be followed by optimizing payment and financial management systems, and finally, strengthening internal control platforms to guarantee the rational flow of information related to medical insurance and medication within the system. Furthermore, as informatization undergoes a period of reform, many departments may face elimination. Although this process will encounter numerous setbacks and obstacles, it represents an inevitable historical trend.

Kuang Hua, CEO of Shanghai Liankong Network Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a presentation titled “Exploration and Practice of the Air Hospital” at the conference, outlining his vision for the hospital of the future. Kuang explored how the internet can be leveraged to provide better services to patients and how the healthcare ecosystem associated with hospitals can be transformed through digitalization. He emphasized that this is not merely a technical issue but also requires a collective shift toward an internet-centric mindset. The internet can further optimize medical consultation processes, offer effective online payment solutions, and facilitate commercial insurance integration, thereby digitizing all aspects of care that do not require direct interaction with physicians. Following his presentation, Kuang provided in-depth answers to questions regarding medical insurance coverage for internet hospitals.

Kuang Hua believes that health insurance reimbursement is an inevitable challenge in the development of internet hospitals. While many hospitals have indeed not yet integrated with the national health insurance system, this issue has seen new progress with the introduction of updated policies this year. We can observe many positive developments: whereas patients previously had to make offline payments at hospitals, some institutions have now achieved a balance where half of their patients are traditional and half are digital-savvy. Although the future of internet hospitals may still face stagnation due to policy fluctuations, the overall trend remains unchanged.

The Future Healthcare Academy Is Officially Established

Tang Chao, General Manager of Alibaba Cloud’s Healthcare Division, and Liu Huiguang, CEO of VCBeat, delivered remarks on the establishment of the Future Healthcare Academy. Tang Chao stated, “When I was considering how to disseminate comprehensive healthcare-related knowledge globally to enhance the overall management capabilities of healthcare enterprises, I thought of VCBeat. We immediately found common ground and promptly began building the Future Healthcare Academy. The original intention behind the Future Healthcare Academy is to open up our healthcare resources to all, precisely match patient and physician needs through big data, improve the quality of supply-side services using AI technology, and optimize organizational and management models within hospitals.”

“As participants in the healthcare industry, we should build our own systems and networks. We must have confidence, as many of our core capabilities stem from our DNA. In fact, an open approach will continuously iterate our capabilities, enabling us to achieve sustained growth through ongoing iteration.”

VCBeat CEO Liu Huiguang shared his views on the Future Medical Academy: “The original intention behind establishing VCBeat was to extend our goodwill to the world by helping healthcare startups drive progress in the medical field. Over the past four years since its inception, VCBeat has engaged with countless healthcare enterprises. We have found that while many of these companies possess impeccable technological advantages, they often lack rigorous organizational structures and effective management, which hinders their development. The healthcare industry is profoundly complex; understanding the management of healthcare enterprises requires extensive experience in the medical sector, as well as regular exchanges with other managers. In light of this, we have partnered with Alibaba Cloud to tailor a range of courses specifically for healthcare innovators, with the aim of helping more healthcare enterprises stand out from the competition.”

Li Hong, Chief Architect of Alibaba Cloud

Following the opening ceremony of the Future Healthcare Academy, Li Hong, Chief Architect at Alibaba Cloud, delivered a presentation titled “Exploration and Practice in Building Future Hospitals on the Cloud.” As one of Alibaba Group’s three core pillars, Alibaba Cloud has conducted in-depth research in cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Guided by lofty aspirations and unwavering ambition, and grounded in the meticulous accumulation of code that forms the foundation for all endeavors, Alibaba Cloud, as China’s largest and the world’s third-largest cloud service provider, now covers more than 200 countries and regions and operates over 200 data centers. “When I first joined Alibaba Cloud, we had only a handful of products; today, we offer more than 200 products serving a wide range of industries. Alibaba Cloud protects over 40% of websites in China and provides security services to 200,000 enterprises.” Currently, cloud-based planning for future hospitals and the integration of “Internet+” cloud services into healthcare represent an inevitable trend. To meet development requirements, future hospitals must embrace platformization, integration, data-driven operations, and internet connectivity.

Currently, the Future Healthcare Academy is extending an invitation to elites in the medical community, seeking to engage more management professionals with deep insights into the healthcare industry for dialogue and exchange.

In the height of summer, we are committed to building the Future Medical Academy with a shared vision. We also aspire to fulfill our mission of advancing “Internet + Healthcare” against the backdrop of a new era, embracing the tide of the times and diving into the vast frontier of technological development. Setting sail in this golden age, we look forward to a promising future!

The second cohort of the Future Healthcare Academy’s “New Healthcare Transformation: Innovators’ Evolution Camp” is about to launch, with a key focus on “Digital Innovation in Hospitals.” We will invite innovative hospital deans to join our course mentor team and welcome more healthcare institutions and startups to engage in collaborative learning and exchange.
