Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry: Helping Children Enjoy Dental Visits
VCBeat (WeChat: vcbeat) has learned that Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry announced it had secured funding fromQingxin Capital Leads the Investment, with existing investors DaoTong Investment and IDG Capital continuing to invest tens of millions of yuan in the Series A+ financing round, for which MuMian Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor. This round of financing took place just four months after the previous Series A round. Since its establishment in 2015, JiCheng has cumulatively raised over RMB 100 million.
Ji Cheng Pediatric Dentistry, which focuses on addressing dental issues in children aged 0–14 and features gamified dental visits, currently has a presence in Tianjin and Shanghai.Establish 4 clinics,This includes the newly opened Shanghai Xinjiangwan and Lujiazui stores this year. Three more stores are scheduled to open this summer, including the Shanghai Zhangjiang store, as well as the Tianjin Aocheng and Nanjing New World stores. Additionally, two other stores, namely the Shanghai Nanxiang and Tianjin Yanlord stores, have entered the pre-opening preparation phase.
Hu Yuchen, Partner at Qingxin Capital, the lead investor in this funding round, stated: “Qingxin Capital has consistently focused on innovative optimizations of service experiences within the context of consumption upgrading. While there is robust demand for pediatric dental care services, professional providers remain relatively scarce, presenting a high-potential incremental market. Jicheng’s competitive advantage also lies in its relentless pursuit of exceptional customer experience, transforming children’s perceptions of oral care and treatment through its ‘Happy Dental Visits’ philosophy. We look forward to Jicheng’s continued promotion of advanced pediatric dental care concepts and its long-term contributions to the healthy growth of children in China.”
Daotong Investment and IDG Capital, the two co-investing institutions, are also optimistic about the market development prospects of Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry and endorse its brand positioning and objectives.
“Specialized dental clinics have become widespread in China, reflecting the growing public emphasis on oral health. Individuals with oral health awareness hold similar expectations and needs for their children’s dental care, and preventive measures for oral issues are most effective when initiated as early as possible. The demand in the niche market of pediatric dentistry remains largely unmet. By entering this segment, Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry has the potential to deliver greater customer and social value, which constitutes the foundation of our existence and development,” stated Taer Gai, Founder and CEO of Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry.
The results of the Fourth National Oral Health Epidemiological Survey show that the prevalence of dental caries in primary teeth among 5-year-old children in China reached 70.9%, an increase of 5.8 percentage points compared with ten years ago. The prevalence of dental caries in permanent teeth among 12-year-old children was 34.5%, an increase of 7.8 percentage points compared with ten years ago. The prevalence of dental caries in children shows an upward trend.
Compared with adults, children’s teeth go through two critical periods of sensitivity: the primary tooth eruption stage in infancy and early childhood, and the mixed dentition (tooth replacement) stage during school age. Dental care during these two stages, as well as the timely treatment of dental problems, have a crucial impact on children’s future oral health.
The demand for pediatric dental treatment is substantial, and the pain points are equally evident. While adults primarily seek a qualified professional, children’s needs extend beyond this. Although they rarely present with complex or intractable conditions, their fear and resistance to dental visits often manifest directly as irritability, avoidance, and crying. This can force dentists to interrupt treatment, subjecting parents to repeated distressing experiences. Moreover, unpleasant dental experiences in childhood may lead to long-term aversion to oral healthcare and treatment in the future.
Since its inception, Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry has championed the mission of “making dental visits enjoyable for children.” It pioneered an immersive, game-based dental care model, transforming each clinic into a child-friendly “themed playground.” The brand also launched its own series of pediatric dental health picture books, which help children assume game roles while familiarizing themselves with the dental office environment and learning basic oral health knowledge. Complementing this approach are on-site costume-changing experiences and interactive games, all designed to alleviate or eliminate children’s anxiety and fear associated with dental visits.
“The first Jicheng clinic in Shanghai, located on Panyu Road, features a space theme and quickly became a popular spot among mothers’ social circles upon opening, earning the reputation of being the dental clinic least like a medical facility. Following the space theme, we introduced an ocean theme at our Zhangjiang branch, and we are considering launching more diverse themes in the future, such as dinosaurs,” said Taer Gai.
In addition to embodying gamified design concepts at the hardware level in its clinics, Jicheng also creates for children at the service level"De-medicalization"dental experience. “We require every medical professional to learn how to interact with children and communicate with them on an equal footing from a child’s perspective,” said Yun Xiaofei, Chief Medical Officer of Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry.
How to encourage children to cooperate with treatment and establish long-term healthy oral hygiene habits involves the fields of child psychology and behavioral guidance management. “Jicheng integrates pediatric behavior management elements into its specialized pediatric dental diagnosis, treatment, and services. Whether it is the medical and nursing team at Jicheng clinics or the support center team,"Behavior Management and Communication in Children Are Essential Courses"“To this end, we have also established a dedicated team responsible for learning and training,” added Yun Xiaofei.
This June, Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry joined forces with multiple pediatric dental experts in China to bring the American pediatric dentistry work《Behavior Management in Pediatric Dental Care》Translated into Chinese and introduced to China for the first time, with the aim of helping more professionals in the field of pediatric dentistry improve the quality of their diagnostic and treatment services.
“By creating an immersive, gamified dental experience, we are delighted to see that most children not only cooperate with dentists during treatment but also find the process enjoyable, with some even looking forward to their next dental check-up. In the future, Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry will continue to open new clinics to help more children enjoy positive dental care experiences,” said Taer Gai, CEO of Jicheng Pediatric Dentistry.
