The China Healthcare Big Data Industry Innovation Competition (CDHIC) is currently at its peak. Following the finals in the Beijing division (July 8) and the Guangzhou division (July 28), the third regional final—the Hangzhou division final—was successfully concluded on August 4 at Dream Town, No. 1399 Liangmu Road, Yuhang District, Hangzhou.

The emergence of Alibaba, a global technology giant, has borne witness to Hangzhou’s innovative prowess and illuminated the future for numerous young entrepreneurs and innovators. In the realm of medical innovation, proactive government support, coupled with the open, positive, and inclusive attitudes of healthcare institutions and physicians toward new technologies and products, has made Hangzhou a fertile ground for medical innovation. Consequently, many high-quality medical innovation projects have originated in Hangzhou. The organizing committee selected the Chinese character “Yong” (meaning “courage”) as the thematic keyword for the Hangzhou division finals to embody the spirit of brave struggle and relentless pursuit demonstrated by medical innovators and entrepreneurs, as well as to encourage the shortlisted projects to confidently showcase themselves and compete actively. At the CDHIC Hangzhou Division Finals, competition among the shortlisted medical innovation projects was even more intense, particularly in the “Rising Stars” category, where the pitch scores of some closely ranked contestants differed by merely 0.2 points.

 Suzhou Tisu Information Technology Co., Ltd., winner of the first place in the Growth Star category, and Hangzhou Guanzi Health Technology Co., Ltd., winner of the first place in the Angel Star categoryFocusing respectively on the artificial intelligence segment within the tech-medical sector and the pharmaceutical industry, they share a common characteristic: all founding team members are young researchers in their respective fields.

Xiaowei Ding, CEO of Suzhou Voxel Information Technology Co., Ltd., holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Chief Scientist Demetri Terzopoulos is a Distinguished Professor at UCLA and Director of the Computer Vision and Graphics Laboratory; he is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the Canadian Academy of Sciences, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Dr. Jianming Liang, Vice President of Research and Development, currently serves as an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Computer Science at Arizona State University (ASU) in the United States.

Li Cheng, CEO of Hangzhou Guanzi Health Technology Co., Ltd., holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Shanghai Institute for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Ding Qiurong, CTO, graduated from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and currently serves as a Principal Investigator, Research Group Leader, and Doctoral Supervisor at the Institute of Nutrition Science, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. With 40+ professional judges and 50+ top-tier investment firms on site, competing projects demonstrated remarkable “courage.”

The Hangzhou Regional Finals differed slightly from previous regional finals. As a major e-commerce hub and a "New First-Tier City" in China, Hangzhou served as a key region for the CDHIC. The event attracted over 100 participants, including national investment institutions, professionals from the medical innovation sector, and representatives from the Hangzhou municipal government.

At the live competition, judges rigorously evaluated the shortlisted projects across six dimensions: technology and service model, business model, management team, industry and market landscape, financial analysis, and on-site Q&A. From this process, they selected the well-deserved top three winners for the “Growth Star” and “Angel Star” awards. In addition, representatives from more than 50 leading investment institutions attended the event to observe the project pitches, extending numerous offers of interest to their preferred ventures.

On-site Judges, Guests, and Participating Project Teams

This regional final featured a showdown between strong contenders. According to statistics from VCBeat, the medical innovation projects shortlisted for the Hangzhou division finals were generally of high quality, with most scoring above 70 in the preliminary round. After the competition in this regional final, the average score across all projects was 73.77, with the "Angel Star" category averaging 70.96 and the "Growth Star" category averaging 75.33. In addition, the shortlisted projects covered a wide range of fields, totaling eight sectors: digital health, healthcare IT, primary care, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, general wellness, maternal and child health, and TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecom) data. Among them,The highest number of projects are in the fields of health technology and healthcare informatization., totaling 14, with higher comprehensive scores, averaging 74.04 points. The revenue performance of the enterprises participating in this competition was generally strong. According to statistics, 8 projects reported revenues of RMB 10 million or more, 3 projects had revenues between RMB 5 million and 10 million, and 8 projects recorded revenues between RMB 1 million and 5 million.

CEC HealthIndustryMr. Zhao Zhifeng, a partner of the fund, shared the background, achievements, and future development direction of China Electronics Data and the CE Health Industry Fund. He expressed high expectations for the medical innovation projects participating in this competition, hoping to discover more high-quality projects and outstanding entrepreneurs and innovators.

CEC HealthIndustryMs. Wang Xiaocen, a partner at the fund, reviewed the historical trajectory of digital health investments and analyzed future trends in her keynote speech, offering valuable investment insights to the audience.

Mr. Zhou Mi, Managing Partner at Puhua Capital and Co-Chair of the Jury Panel, stated that among the projects shortlisted for the finals in the Hangzhou division, those in the “Rising Star” category demonstrated higher quality and greater innovation compared to other divisions. While the quality of projects in the “Angel Star” category varied slightly, it was generally strong. He expressed his hope that these projects would achieve substantial growth in Hangzhou and contribute to China’s medical innovation endeavors.
