Thirty Shortlisted Projects Engage in Fierce On-Site Competition, Showcasing the “New Momentum” of Medical Innovation in the Sichuan-Chongqing Region

The regional finals will officially commence at 9:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM. The event will begin with project presentations from the "Rising Star" category, followed by those from the "Angel Star" category. Each "Rising Star" project is allotted 15 minutes for its presentation (including a 10-minute pitch and a 5-minute Q&A session), while each "Angel Star" project is allotted 12 minutes (including an 8-minute pitch and a 4-minute Q&A session). Judges will strictly evaluate each project across six dimensions: technology and service model, business model, industry and market analysis, management team, financial analysis, and on-site defense. The final score for each project will be calculated as the average of the judges' scores after excluding the highest and lowest scores.

The medical innovation projects shortlisted for this regional final span a wide range of fields, encompassing 11 categories in total: medical devices, general health, digital health, biotechnology, healthcare informatics, maternal and child health, consumer healthcare, rehabilitation and nursing, primary care, healthcare finance, and pharmaceuticals. Unlike previous competitions, projects in the digital health and healthcare informatics sectors are no longer the dominant force in the Chengdu division’s finals; instead, the number of projects across all fields shows a trend toward balanced distribution.

Furthermore, the financing rounds of projects shortlisted for the Chengdu division finals were predominantly concentrated in the pre-seed and Series A stages, with a generally high demand for resource empowerment across all projects.

"Rising Star" First Place: Centered on a Team of Senior U.S.-Based Scientists; "Angel Star" First Place: Focused on Infant and Toddler Skin Repair

Chengdu Huahao Zhongtian Biotechnology Co., Ltd. won first place in the “Growth Star” category of the CDHIC Chengdu Regional Finals. Established in 2002, it is the earliest-founded company in this region. Focusing on the pharmaceutical sector, the company has secured Series C financing. As a national high-tech enterprise, it is built around a core team of senior scientists with U.S. experience, leverages its proprietary technology platform, and continuously integrates resources in the biopharmaceutical field. Its primary business focus is the development of novel Class 1 anti-tumor drugs with independent intellectual property rights. The company has already established its presence in gene-engineered microbial fermentation-based anti-tumor drugs and tumor immunotherapy. Its product pipeline includes one chemical drug with “first-in-class” potential and three with “best-in-class” potential. Among these, UTD1 has completed domestic multi-center Phase III clinical trials. As a best-in-class candidate, its Phase III clinical trial results were presented as an oral report at the prestigious American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting and published in full in the leading international academic journal The Lancet Oncology, marking a milestone in China’s independent drug research and development.

The first-place winner of the "Angel Star" award in the Chengdu Division Finals of the CDHIC competition is Chengdu Huaxi Pharma Biotechnology Co., Ltd. The company was founded by Professor Huang Jing from the West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University. Guided by independent research and development, the company is committed to addressing various skin problems through natural approaches. According to the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC), the global prevalence of infantile eczema ranges from 30% to 60%, while the detection rate in China is as high as 57.3%. Although topical glucocorticoids are the first-line treatment recommended by eczema management guidelines, their use is limited by several factors: a high threshold for application (requiring strict medical supervision and precluding self-medication), cognitive barriers (parents' reluctance to use hormonal treatments for infants), and restrictions on long-term use due to potential side effects. Centering on Osthin™, a natural active ingredient with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and reparative properties, Huaxi Pharma has developed the "Infant Osmanthus Multi-Effect Repair Cream." This product is highly safe, free from hormones and antibiotics, effectively alleviates skin itching in affected infants, rapidly repairs skin lesions, and reduces recurrence rates. It not only successfully addresses the health issues faced by many pediatric patients but also significantly alleviates their burden and anxiety, generating substantial social benefits. Currently, the company has established a complete preparation process for extracting this active ingredient and has filed five national invention patent applications and registered four trademarks. In collaboration with Sichuan University under a signed cooperation agreement, the company will continue to optimize its technology and commercialize skincare products for infants and young children, providing better skin repair options for mothers and infants nationwide.

Mr. Zhou Mi, Managing Partner at Puhua Capital and Co-Chair of the Judging Panel, summarized the project roadshows at the Chengdu Division Finals. He noted that although the overall average quality of the projects was slightly lower than that of the previous three regional finals, several standout projects impressed all the judges with their exceptional strength. He encouraged medical innovation teams in the Sichuan-Chongqing region to continue their efforts with unwavering determination, to develop more high-quality projects, and to leverage this strong momentum to carve out a significant presence in the field of medical innovation.
