Hosted by VCBeat, Eggshell Research Institute, and the Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration Coordination Department of the China High-Tech Industrialization Research Association“Infinity” – 2018 World Forum on Medical Technology, to be held on September 26–27 at the Le Méridien Shanghai Minhang Baolong Hotel。
Academician Zhang Yuanting, Chair Professor of Biomedical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, Fellow of the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, and IEEE Fellow, has confirmed his attendance at the “Infinity” – 2018 World Forum on Medical Technology.
[Character Introduction]

Dr. Yuan-Ting Zhang is currently Chair Professor of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at City University of Hong Kong. He previously served as the Founding Head of the Department of BME at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Sensor Systems Designer at Apple Inc. in California, the Founding Director of the Key Laboratory of Health Informatics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Leader of the CAS–State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs Innovative Team for Multimodal Rapid Medical Imaging.
Professor Zhang currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Reviews in Biomedical Engineering, Chair of the IEEE BME Field Award Review Committee (2016–2018), and Chair of the IEEE 1708 International Standards Working Group. He previously served as Vice President of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), Chair of the International Committee for EMBC’07 in Lyon, and Co-Chair of the Technical Program Committee for EMBC’17 in Jeju Island. Professor Zhang has been invited to deliver over 300 academic lectures both domestically and internationally, including a Plenary Keynote Address at EMBC’18 in Hawaii and the Earl Owen Named Keynote Lecture at the 2018 SMIT International Conference in Seoul. He was listed among Elsevier’s Most Cited Chinese Researchers in the field of Biomedical Engineering for four consecutive years.
Professor Zhang was elected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, an IEEE Fellow, and an AIMBE Fellow in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
Academician Zhang Yuanting proposedTheory of Health Engineering, integrating scientific engineering and technology with biomedicine, sociology, law, and management, with a focus on the prediction and prevention of major diseases, to drive the development of the emerging big health industry and achieve the transition from current passive medical care to future proactive health.
Academician Zhang pointed out,The Value of Wearable Sensor Technology Is Equally Important and Inseparable from Artificial Intelligence, it will play an irreplaceable role in future healthcare, the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart cities. It requires collective efforts to promote core technological innovation and development, and to promptly commercialize new products, industries, and services.
Academician Zhang Yuanting pointed outDevelopment Trends in Wearable Products: The “SUPER-MINDS” Five-Transformation, Five-Characteristic System:Miniaturization, intelligence, networking, digitization, and standardization, as well as confidentiality, non-invasiveness, precision, energy efficiency, and robustness.
On September 26, Dr. Yuan-Ting Zhang, Chair Professor of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at City University of Hong Kong, will attend the “Infinity” – 2018 World Forum on Medical Technology, hosted by VCBeat, VBInsight, and the Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Coordination Department of the China High-Tech Industrialization Research Association. He will share insights on the variables and development trends facing wearable technology in the broader health industry.

[Conference Details]
We can now see that digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things are impacting various industries, with continuous technological innovation disrupting the healthcare sector.
With the introduction of two policies, namely the Development Plan for New-Generation Artificial Intelligence and the Opinions on Promoting the Development of “Internet Plus Medical Health,” capital has flooded into the sector, high-valued AI enterprises have emerged frequently, and commercialization pathways are still being explored.
The “Healthy China 2030” Planning Outline was released, and three major health and medical data groups were established. The explosive growth of data, driven by declining costs of data acquisition through gene sequencing and wearable devices, has laid the scale foundation for big data and AI analysis.
As the application of robots in China’s healthcare sector gains increasing recognition and becomes more widespread across various stages of diagnosis and treatment, medical robots—particularly surgical robots—have emerged as “high-demand products” within the robotics industry. Robotic systems are being increasingly deployed in hospitals, with domestic technologies steadily catching up with their foreign counterparts.
Medical 3D printing has entered a transitional phase from its initial to intermediate stage. Applications such as dental prosthetics and customized prosthetic limbs have already achieved commercialization and are experiencing rapid growth. Orthopedics has become a key battleground for market competition, attracting various enterprises to establish their presence. Breakthroughs have been made in organ and tissue experimentation, making human clinical applications promising.
In April this year, the National Health Commission released the "Standards and Specifications for Hospital Information Construction in China (Trial)," which clearly defined 21 application scenarios for IoT-based positioning and data monitoring. With the introduction of these standards, the direction of the IoT industry has become increasingly clear, and scenario-based applications are beginning to stand out;
In the genomics sector, tumor detection is poised for rapid growth, microbiomics is gradually maturing under policy guidance, and consumer genetic testing has entered the “200-yuan era.”
Technological innovation enterprises have begun to explore their respective paths for application implementation, scaling from 1 to N...

The 2018 World Forum on Medical Technology, themed “Infinity,” will be held at the Le Méridien Minhang Baolong Hotel in Shanghai from September 26 to September 27, 2018.
This forum will bring together domestic and international healthcare service providers, listed companies, financial institutions, and health-tech innovators with a core focus on technological innovation. Discussions will center on five key dimensions: policy, capital, data, technology, and commercialization pathways. The event will explore the commercial applications of five major technologies—artificial intelligence, big data, robotics, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as genetic testing—within hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and third-party healthcare service providers. The program features eight core forums covering over 80 hot topics, and will convene more than 80 industry leaders, 100+ investors, 300+ entrepreneurs, and 30+ media outlets in Shanghai to spark intellectual exchange and foster collaboration.
If you are a government official, healthcare practitioner, or industry professional focused on technological innovation in health and medicine—including executives from medical informatics companies, medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical firms, and insurance companies; industry investors; healthcare media professionals; and leaders of public or startup companies leveraging big data and AI in healthcare—this industry forum is tailor-made for “you.”
