Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Tianjin University, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently serves as the First Chairman of the China Smart City Industry Alliance, Vice Chairman of the Internet of Things Expert Committee of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, Honorary President of the China Smart City Construction Investment Alliance, Vice Chairman of the China Smart City Planning and Construction Promotion Alliance, Chief Architect of the Smart City Planning System for the National Pilot Project of the New Generation National Traffic Control Network, Vice Chairman of the National Expert Committee on Intelligent Elderly Care, Member of the National Committee on Informatization Construction for Elderly Care Services, Director of the Smart Internet of Things Professional Committee of the Civil-Military Integration Development Alliance for Cyberspace Security, Chairman of the Medical Artificial Intelligence Professional Committee of the China Medical Device Industry Association, Dean of the Tianjin Smart Internet of Things Information Technology Research Institute, President of the Tianjin Society for Intelligent Science and Technology, and Chairman of the Tianjin Laser Technology Society.

Currently, his primary research focuses on laser technology, sensing technology, smart cities, and the Internet of Things (IoT), yielding substantial achievements in both theory and practice. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Second Prize of the National Invention Award, the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the State Education Commission and Tianjin Municipality (four times), the First Prize for Military Scientific and Technological Progress, the Special Prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Second Prize of Zhejiang Province for Science and Technology. He has published more than 730 papers in domestic and international journals, which have been cited hundreds of times by scholars worldwide.

Academician Yao Jianquan believes that the Internet of Things (IoT) is not merely “Internet plus sensors”; between IoT and the InternetEach has its own independent development history, scope of application, target audience, and network architecture. The Internet of Things is gradually moving into a critically important position.

Academician Yao Jianquan proposed that, for a certain period of time, there will be three types of networks—Internet, Internet of Things, and Mobile Communication Networks—Coexistence and Mutual Complementarity, mutually making human society more intelligent and harmonious.

On September 26, Academician Yao Jianquan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Tianjin University, will attend the “Infinity” – 2018 World Forum on Medical Technology, hosted by VCBeat, VBInsight, and the Industry-University-Research Cooperation Coordination Department of the China High-Tech Industrialization Research Association. He will share insights on exploring development pathways for smart health and elderly care.

[Conference Details]

We can now see that digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things are impacting various industries, with continuous technological innovation disrupting the healthcare sector.

With the introduction of the “Development Plan for New Generation Artificial Intelligence” and the “Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of ‘Internet Plus Medical Health,’” capital has poured in frenetically, high-valuation AI enterprises have emerged one after another, and commercialization pathways continue to be explored.

The “Healthy China 2030” Planning Outline was released, and three major health and medical data groups were established. The explosive growth of data, driven by the declining costs of data acquisition from gene sequencing, wearable devices, and other sources, has laid a scalable foundation for big data and AI analytics.

As the application of robots in China’s healthcare sector gains increasing recognition and becomes more widespread across various stages of diagnosis and treatment, medical robots—particularly surgical robots—have emerged as “high-demand products” within the robotics industry. Robotic systems are increasingly being deployed in hospitals, with domestic technologies steadily catching up to their foreign counterparts.

Medical 3D printing has entered a transitional phase from its initial to intermediate stage. Applications such as dental restoration and customized prosthetics have already achieved commercialization and are experiencing rapid growth. Orthopedics has become a key focal point of market competition, attracting widespread strategic investment from various enterprises. Meanwhile, new breakthroughs in organ and tissue experimentation offer promising prospects for future clinical application in humans.

In April this year, the National Health Commission released the “Standards and Specifications for Hospital Information Construction in China (Trial),” which clearly defines 21 application scenarios for IoT-based positioning and data monitoring. With the introduction of these standards, the industry’s direction has become increasingly clear, and scenario-based applications are beginning to stand out.

In the genomics sector, tumor detection is poised for rapid growth, microbiomics is gradually maturing under policy guidance, and consumer genetic testing has entered the “20-yuan era.”

Technological innovation enterprises have begun to explore their own paths for application implementation, scaling from 1 to N...

The 2018 World Forum on Medical Technology, themed “Infinity,” will be held at the Le Méridien Minhang Shanghai Hotel from September 26 to September 27, 2018.

This forum will bring together domestic and international healthcare service providers, listed companies, financial institutions, and health-tech innovators with a core focus on technological innovation. Discussions will center on five key dimensions: policy, capital, data, technology, and commercialization pathways. The event will explore the commercial applications of five major technologies—artificial intelligence, big data, robotics, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as genetic testing—within hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and third-party healthcare service providers. Featuring eight core forums and discussions on over 80 hot topics, the event will convene in Shanghai with more than 80 distinguished guests, 100+ investors, 300+ entrepreneurs, and 30+ media representatives to exchange insights and foster collaboration.

This industry forum is tailor-made for “you” if you are a government official or healthcare practitioner focused on technological innovation in the health and medical sectors; a professional across the related industry chain, including executives from healthcare IT companies, medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical firms, and insurance companies; industrial investors; media professionals covering the healthcare industry; or leaders of listed companies and startups that have deployed big data and AI+healthcare solutions.
