As the first app in China specifically designed for patients with hematologic disorders, “Xiao Bai Kuai Hao” helps patients manage their conditions and facilitates online communication between new and existing patients, providing more practical and effective support to leukemia patients so they can avoid unnecessary detours and expenses. Recently, Zhang Wei, founder of “Xiao Bai Kuai Hao,” was interviewed by VCBeat (WeChat: vcbeat), where he shared the story behind the product.
Regarding why “Xiaobai Kuaihao” is positioned as a product specifically designed for patients with blood disorders, it is necessary to start with its unique core team.
Founder Zhang Wei holds a Master’s degree in Electronic Science and Technology from Beijing Institute of Technology and Washington University in St. Louis. He has previously served as a Software Engineer and iOS Development Engineer at companies including Fiber Mountain, Verizon Wireless, Tantan, and Yangqianguan.
Gao Yang, who oversees marketing, holds a bachelor’s degree from China Agricultural University and is a serial entrepreneur. He previously founded Shanghai Quanan Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. and specializes in brand promotion and market public relations. As the father of a child who was cured of leukemia, he is dedicated to philanthropic initiatives in the field of leukemia.
Wang Xin'an, who is in charge of technology, holds a master's degree from Qingdao University of Science and Technology. He has participated in the development of projects such as Haier Smart Home and Smart Aquaculture, and possesses extensive experience in Android development.
Chen Jiquan, who is in charge of operations, holds a bachelor’s degree from Shenzhen University and is a serial entrepreneur. He previously founded Shenzhen Jute New Media Technology Co., Ltd., specializing in new media operations and marketing planning. After his child was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016 and subsequently cured, he actively dedicated himself to the mobile internet healthcare sector focused on leukemia.
Chen Ning of the BD team holds a bachelor’s degree from Renmin University of China and is a serial entrepreneur. With ten years of extensive experience in corporate marketing, he previously spearheaded the promotion of multiple products. He later embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by founding an overseas study consultancy that connects high-quality domestic and international educational resources, and established a business development outreach team. Having battled leukemia for many years, he became the first person to achieve a successful outcome in treating refractory leukemia.
When discussing the opportunity for entrepreneurship, Zhang Wei stated, “We started by addressing the pain points of patient communities, identifying issues such as strained doctor-patient relationships and the inconvenience patients face in managing their conditions. Initially, we decided to build a social platform for patients. During the product promotion phase, we met Gao Yang and Chen Jiquan, who were running a charity marketplace for leukemia patients at the time. We instantly connected and decided to jointly develop a product to support the blood disease community—‘Xiao Bai Kuai Hao.’ Leukemia patients refer to themselves as ‘Xiao Bai’ (Little Whites), and this name conveys the wish for their condition to improve quickly.”
The backgrounds of the team members determine the company’s development direction. Chen Jiquan, Gao Yang, and Chen Ning are key opinion leaders (KOLs) within leukemia patient communities. As a representative example of a leukemia survivor, Chen Ning enjoys a strong reputation among patients and has accumulated substantial resources for market expansion. Furthermore, given that hospitalization and rehabilitation periods for hematologic malignancies are exceptionally prolonged, patients often acquire significant medical knowledge over time, effectively transitioning into peer guides for other patients. Therefore, leveraging the team’s current resources and capabilities, “Xiaobai Kuaihao” will initially focus on the leukemia patient community before expanding to other disease categories.
Zhang Wei stated, “We aspire to build an online medical platform for hematologic diseases that delivers an unparalleled user experience and service, empowering patients to understand their conditions accurately, rationally, and objectively. Our goal is to help them avoid unnecessary detours, choose appropriate treatment options, and maintain a positive and optimistic outlook on life even after recovery. Furthermore, through our efforts, we aim to foster a correct societal perception of individuals with hematologic disorders, providing them with the support and care within our capacity.”
“Xiaobai Kuaihao” currently focuses on disease management, offering five core services: daily tracking, medication reminders, lab report storage, a milestone log, and expense management. Specifically, the Xiaobai Assistant helps patients record indicators such as complete blood count (CBC) results and fluid intake/output, generates corresponding trend charts, monitors medication adherence with reminders, logs major events such as hospitalizations and transplants, and tracks medical expenses.

In addition, the patient social networking feature launched in June primarily targets newly diagnosed and currently undergoing treatment patients. By matching based on region, disease type, and other criteria, it breaks down information barriers among patients across China. For instance, if a patient has B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), they can quickly connect with others in similar situations through this feature.
Patient Social Networking primarily addresses the needs of patients for information exchange, experience sharing, and emotional support. Patients can share their disease-related knowledge, personal insights, lifestyle updates, and rehabilitation experiences, while interacting with other patients to build friendships with those who understand their situation. This enables them to find suitable social circles and receive help and encouragement from peers with similar experiences, thereby facilitating targeted solutions to their individual challenges.
Since its launch in May, the “Xiaobai Kuaihao” app has maintained a stable weekly active user base of approximately 200 without any proactive promotion. The stewardship tools have received widespread acclaim from leukemia patients, who regard the product as highly practical. In particular, the feature for recording metrics such as fluid intake and output, along with the corresponding trend charts, enables patients to intuitively compare their daily input and output balance, thereby helping them better manage their condition.
Regarding the recently launched Q&A community, Zhang Wei stated, “We aim to excel in patient navigation. Due to information asymmetry between doctors and patients, patients are a vulnerable group during the medical care process, often taking unnecessary detours and incurring avoidable expenses. The paid Q&A community we have built is a healthy and professional platform that breaks down geographical barriers and addresses third-party trust issues, enabling patients to navigate with clarity, avoid unnecessary detours, and find the most appropriate treatment plans.”
In the Q&A community, new patients pay to ask questions while experienced patients earn money by providing answers, thereby transferring their experience to newcomers through this interactive format. Offering tangible rewards helps motivate patient participation and encourages high-quality responses, resulting in the accumulation of valuable insights from experienced patients within the community. Meanwhile, these answers are freely searchable and accessible, enabling other patients to engage in self-education by browsing community content, enhancing their understanding of their conditions, and obtaining information about relevant hospitals, physicians, and treatment costs.

Currently, the primary business model of “Xiaobai Kuaihao” is a combination of a paid Q&A community and public-welfare e-commerce. Experienced patients earn points by answering questions or completing tasks within the Q&A community. These points can be converted into corresponding account balances. Users may withdraw funds once their account balance reaches a specified threshold; otherwise, the balance serves as the company’s working capital. Additionally, the platform takes a 25% commission on each Q&A transaction.
On the other hand, the “Love Selection” marketplace will launch a variety of health foods, including green products produced and sold directly by patients. Meanwhile, it will invite public welfare organizations, foundations, and hometown associations within the leukemia community to establish a presence on the platform. After purchasing products, buyers can donate the accrued “Love Points” to these organizations, which can redeem them as operational funding to support more patients. Subsequently, the marketplace will undergo a comprehensive upgrade, adopting a patient-led agency and distribution model that enables patients to list their own products or earn profits as distributors.
By adopting this charitable e-commerce model, buyers can contribute to charitable causes through their purchases. Meanwhile, nonprofit organizations rooted in patient communities receive tangible support, thereby influencing patients to understand and trust the “Love Selection” mall, ultimately expanding the brand’s influence.
Regarding future development plans, Zhang Wei stated, “Initially, my family supported me in undertaking such a meaningful endeavor and provided RMB 300,000 as seed funding for the company. Following the launch of the Q&A community, we aim to build our current team based on the existing business model. Around October, we will begin seeking angel investment, targeting RMB 2 million in financing in exchange for 10% equity. Subsequently, we will focus on enhancing features, expanding our user base and market scale, and improving user stickiness.”
“Our goal is to build ‘Xiaobai Kuaihao’ into an efficient and professional patient navigation platform, which is also our competitive advantage. While many current healthcare products focus on the B-side (business-to-business), the Xiaobai Kuaihao app is entirely rooted in the C-side (consumer-facing), originating from patients and serving patients. Leveraging the unique backgrounds of our core team members, we are dedicated to serving the broad community of patients with hematologic disorders, providing them with professional and precise information in this specialized field,” said Zhang Wei.
