To accelerate the development of China’s medical laboratory industry and advance third-party precision intelligent testing, the “2nd Academic Forum of the World Chinese Association of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Physicians, along with Special Forums on Standardized Residency Training and Department Chair Leadership” was held in Qingdao on September 20.

VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that at the forum, Puti Third-Party Medical Laboratory Center (hereinafter referred to as “Puti Laboratory”) entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with the World Association of Chinese Laboratory and Pathology Physicians. The two parties will bring together top-tier Chinese laboratory experts and physicians from both domestic and international communities to build world-class platforms for intelligent laboratory systems, talent development, and clinical scientific research.

Bodhi Lab is China’s first third-party intelligent testing platform featuring NGS sequencing and Watson for Genomics-based genomic interpretation. The platform provides end-to-end support for cancer screening, diagnosis, and companion diagnostics for targeted and immunotherapies. Together with the intelligent clinical decision-support and smart supply chain components under Baiyang Pharmaceutical Group, it delivers comprehensive solutions for healthcare intelligence.

Zhang Yanling, President of the World Association of Chinese Physicians, stated, “At present, various issues—such as an imperfect system for laboratory medicine, uneven distribution of resources, a lack of quality control standards, and inadequate talent training mechanisms—are hindering the development of laboratory medicine and pathology in China. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that the wave of intelligent transformation in China’s medical laboratory industry is unstoppable. Therefore, the strategic partnership signed between the World Association of Chinese Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Physicians and Baiyang Pharmaceutical Group represents a substantive step toward advancing the intelligent development of China’s medical laboratory industry. Following this collaboration, both parties will further promote professional training for laboratory professionals and advance the development of laboratory medicine in the field of intelligence. Meanwhile, I hope this partnership will yield tangible results as soon as possible, create replicable models, and pioneer a new path for transformation and development in China that is talent-led, thereby fostering the standardized development of our laboratory medicine discipline.”

“Sniping” Tumors: Building a Systemic Medical Evaluation Framework for Oncology

Data from the National Cancer Center shows that in 2015, there were 4.2916 million new cancer cases and 2.8142 million cancer-related deaths in China. Each day, 12,000 people are diagnosed with cancer, and 7,500 patients die from the disease. With the improvement of medical quality and diagnostic and treatment capabilities in China, although the 5-year survival rate for malignant tumors has increased from 30.9% ten years ago to 40.5%, there is still room for improvement overall compared to developed countries.

To improve the current state of treatment for cancer patients and further increase the five-year survival rate for malignant tumors, immuno-oncology therapies, represented by PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors, have garnered widespread attention in the industry in recent years and have gradually become one of the primary approaches to cancer treatment internationally. Unlike conventional therapies, immuno-oncology does not directly attack cancer cells; instead, it fully mobilizes the body’s own immune cells to precisely target and combat tumor cells. Currently, immuno-oncology has demonstrated long-term survival benefits in the treatment of certain tumor types, with a favorable safety and tolerability profile.

Bodhi Testing specializes in companion diagnostics for precision oncology. It integrates known cancer-related genes via next-generation sequencing (NGS) and features WfG gene interpretation. By measuring a curated panel of biomarkers—including tumor mutational burden (TMB), microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) status, and PD-L1 expression levels—it provides guidance for the rational use of immune checkpoint inhibitors, effectively evaluates immunotherapy efficacy, and delivers a comprehensive system for oncological medical assessment.

Xiu Haiqing, General Manager of Puti Laboratory, stated, “Following the establishment of a strategic partnership with the World Chinese Association of Laboratory and Pathology Physicians, both parties will continuously strengthen international exchanges and share achievements, integrate expert resources to leverage respective strengths, and promote the exploration and application of new artificial intelligence technologies in laboratory medicine and pathology. This will accelerate the rapid development of precision testing and companion diagnostics. Meanwhile, Puti Laboratory will serve as a talent training base for the World Chinese Association of Laboratory and Pathology Physicians, leveraging the leadership of experts in their disciplines to foster technological innovation and the translation of research outcomes into practical applications, cultivate outstanding professionals, and provide high-quality medical services for disease diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis assessment.”

To integrate superior expert resources and fully leverage the disciplinary leadership of these experts, the Chinese Overseas Doctors Association and Puti Medical Group have specially appointed Professor Meng Qinghe, Vice President of the Chinese Overseas Society for Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and Professor Wang Chengbin, Director of the Clinical Laboratory Center at the Chinese PLA General Hospital, among others, as Distinguished Experts of Huayi Zhihui. Moving forward, Puti Laboratory will collaborate closely with these top-tier industry experts in areas such as discipline development guidance, teaching mentorship, academic exchange, multidisciplinary consultations, and telemedicine.

Gathering Precision Medicine to Achieve Full-Course Disease Management

Amid the rapid development of the third-party medical testing market, Puti Testing will secure a niche position by leveraging its advantages in internationally renowned laboratory and pathology experts, advanced technology, state-of-the-art equipment, and biochemical immunology.

Bodhi Laboratory is an independent third-party medical testing laboratory invested and established by Bodhi Medical Group, a subsidiary of Baiyang Pharmaceutical Group. It is a third-party testing center specializing in precision medicine companion diagnostics, early warning for major diseases, and chronic disease management testing. The laboratory is dedicated to precise and intelligent testing in oncology, genetic disorders, infectious diseases, and pharmacogenomics. By providing clinical laboratory diagnostic reports and research service support that integrate etiological, itemized, comprehensive, and dynamic analyses to medical institutions at all levels, research institutes, and health management centers, it achieves whole-course disease management centered on personalized, standardized, and precise testing as well as systematic evaluation, particularly for tumors and other conditions.

According to Xiu Haiqing, as the Chinese partner of the Harvard Genetics Group, Puti Testing will introduce advanced testing methods, quality management systems, and automation technologies from Europe and the United States into China. This initiative aims to establish a comprehensive system for precise cancer diagnosis and treatment, encompassing targeted therapies based on tumor genetic testing, PD-1 antibody treatments guided by Tumor Mutational Burden (TMB) and immune profiling, efficacy evaluations based on IL-8 levels and liquid biopsy, and AI-driven physician services powered by IBM Watson Health.

Currently, Bodhi Diagnostics has established in-depth collaborations with the Suzhou Institute of Systems Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Department of Genetics at Harvard University, and the Guangzhou Lung Cancer Research Institute, aiming to build a world-class third-party medical laboratory specializing in precision medicine companion diagnostics. Following the establishment of a strategic partnership with the World Association of Chinese Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Physicians, Bodhi Diagnostics will also assist in building a professional talent training platform, vigorously cultivating specialized technical personnel in laboratory medicine and pathology, providing learning opportunities in areas such as technology research and development and the promotion of technological applications, thereby facilitating the smooth progress of cooperative projects between both parties.
