VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that the inaugural WuXi Diagnostics Precision Medicine Summit, hosted by WuXi Diagnostics and co-organized by International Laboratory Medicine Media, concluded successfully in Shanghai on October 14, 2018. More than 200 leading domestic and international experts in clinical medicine, pathology, and laboratory medicine attended the conference, including Dr. William Morice II, President of Mayo Medical Laboratories and Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest academic advances in precision diagnosis and treatment, as well as policies and regulations governing in vitro diagnostics.

In recent years, chronic diseases such as malignant tumors and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disorders have become one of the leading causes of death among urban populations in China. Precision medicine and in vitro diagnostics (IVD) hold broad application prospects for addressing these medical challenges. Therefore, themed “Visioning the Future, Precision Testing,” this summit aims to provide an empowering platform for multi-party participation, mutual exchange, and collaborative innovation in frontier technological advancements in precision medicine in China. Attending experts analyzed the opportunities and challenges facing the precision medicine industry, provided in-depth interpretations of emerging trends, technologies, and applications in in vitro diagnostics, and jointly facilitated the implementation and development of precision medicine in China, thereby benefiting a vast number of patients.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Li Ge, Chairman of WuXi AppTec, stated, “Early this year, WuXi AppTec joined forces with the Mayo Clinic, a world-leading hospital, to establish WuXi Diagnostics through a joint venture, bringing world-class clinical diagnostic capabilities and services to China. We aim to continuously extend the technical expertise and knowledge accumulated by WuXi AppTec over the years into the field of precision medicine. By creating WuXi Diagnostics’ in vitro and clinical diagnostic enablement platform, we empower physicians to deliver better care and ensure patients receive superior treatment.”
Dr. William Morice II, President of Mayo Clinic Laboratories and Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic, stated, “The rapid development of WuXi Diagnostics over just a few months has given us a profound appreciation of the remarkable ‘WuXi Speed,’ and we are fully confident in its future. Mayo Clinic will continue to provide strong support to WuXi Diagnostics, deepen collaborative R&D and industrial partnerships, and accelerate the translation of basic medical research into clinical applications, thereby benefiting patients in China and around the world.”

Currently, WuXi NextCODE Diagnostics has established a multi-omics clinical diagnostic platform based on cutting-edge testing technologies, covering molecular genetics, proteomics, immunology, metabolomics, pathology, and microbiology. At its Shanghai headquarters and the Mayo Clinic R&D base in Minnesota, USA, the WuXi NextCODE Diagnostics team is simultaneously introducing hundreds of specialized Mayo Clinic tests, with the full introduction of 3,000 such tests expected to be completed by 2019. In the near future, WuXi NextCODE Diagnostics will establish five regional operational centers in East China, North China, South China, Central China, and West China. Based on a two-hour high-speed rail economic circle, it aims to provide high-quality specialized testing services to over 800 million people across China.
“Upholding the grand vision of ‘making no disease difficult to diagnose,’ WuXi Apptec Diagnostics focuses on high-end, precision specialty testing, enhancing physicians’ diagnostic capabilities through a comprehensive, high-standard clinical laboratory platform,” said Dr. Liu Fujun, General Manager of WuXi Apptec Diagnostics. “Looking ahead, WuXi Apptec Diagnostics will dedicate itself to building dual platforms for in vitro diagnostic services and industry empowerment, closely aligning with clinical needs, accelerating the development of innovative specialty tests, integrating multidimensional data, unlocking medical insights, leading precision diagnosis and treatment, and ultimately benefiting human health.”
