Nov 01, 2018 08:00 CST Updated 08:00

In late autumn, the Huawei Research Institute in southern Xi’an is enveloped in profound silence; its vast campus pathways are carpeted with fan-shaped ginkgo leaves.

After more than two years of engagement with Huawei, Huang Yedong, Chairman of Yinggu Network, ultimately led Yinggu to reach a cooperation agreement with Huawei. The signing ceremony was held at Huawei’s Xi’an Research Institute. Hong Fangming, President of Huawei Cloud China Region, and Huang Yedong, Chairman of Yinggu, both attended the ceremony. Zhang Feng, Head of Huawei’s Shaanxi Enterprise Business Department, and Wang Zhiping, Vice President of Yinggu, signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of their respective parties. Huawei attached great importance to this collaboration.

As a leading technology company in China, Huawei has long been deeply engaged and comprehensively positioned in the healthcare sector. Addressing the three major challenges in healthcare, Huawei advocates for solutions driven by internet-thinking models, with a primary focus on resource allocation and health management. Xi’an Yinggu Network Technology Co., Ltd. is also a pioneer and leader in domestic medical imaging cloud services, having already deployed its “Yizhen Cloud” nationwide. This cross-domain collaboration is the result of two years of deliberation by both parties. Following the establishment of this partnership, what are Huawei’s strategic plans in the healthcare sector under the concept of “Inclusive AI”? And what are Yinggu’s future intentions?

Enhancing the Fertility of Black Soil: Huawei Continues to Uphold Its “Platform + Ecosystem” Strategy

Huawei aims to deploy its all-scenario cloud platform globally, adhering to its core principle of never monetizing data. Rather than focusing on competition, Huawei is more committed to collaborating with major tech startups to achieve win-win outcomes.

This may be attributed to Huawei’s prudent development strategy, which has consistently focused its resources on core competencies to build a world-class cloud platform. With comprehensive data processing capabilities, Huawei provides partners with first-class data mining tools and enhances their application-layer capabilities.

Huawei’s specific R&D achievements in the healthcare sector include AI-powered products such as its DLI gene sequencing solution and cloud-based AI analysis solutions for cervical cancer pathology slides. However, Huawei’s core focus remains on building a comprehensive, all-scenario cloud platform. To this end, Huawei has established a National Public Health Platform on the cloud, with the ultimate goal of “making medical care accessible, affordable, and secure for everyone.”

The ecosystem design of the “Platform + Ecosystem” model requires guarantees in three areas: first, infrastructure; second, the data layer; and third, the application layer. Huawei’s extensive internet business lines can ensure a sufficient supply of consumer-side (C-end) information sources, while its self-developed cloud platform is capable of providing enterprises with high-quality database services and application development services. A mature “Platform + Ecosystem” can enable resource incubation and automation capabilities.

Compared with 2017, Huawei Cloud has achieved significant growth through sustained accumulation: its revenue increased sevenfold year-on-year, the number of partners grew by 45%, 872 new applications were added to the cloud marketplace, more than 200 industry solutions were provided, over 4,500 new features were introduced, and a portfolio of more than 120 effective cloud services has been established.

Through this collaboration, Huawei will receive a significant gift from the medical sector provided by Yinggu, as Yinggu’s SaaS-layer services will integrate with Huawei’s IaaS and PaaS-layer services to form an efficient cloud service system.

In the future, Huawei and Xi'an Yinggu Network Technology Co., Ltd. will jointly promote the flattening and homogenization of medical resources in China and even globally, spark intelligent insights in “inclusive AI,” create more compelling applications, and co-build a new “Healthcare + AI” ecosystem.

Yinggu Captures Market with IoT and Big Data Advantages

“Using the IoT AMOL approach, Yinggu will connect all imaging devices to Huawei Cloud.” Regarding the collaboration with Huawei, Huang Yedong stated: “We have been in discussions with Huawei Cloud for two years. From the beginning until now, Huawei’s understanding of the industry has deepened, and its needs have become increasingly clear. Yinggu possesses unique technologies, a distinctive understanding of the industry, and has developed various specialized applications—these constitute Yinggu’s core competitive advantages.”

In the era of the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data, Xi’an Yinggu Network Technology Co., Ltd. leverages transformative innovations, including its globally pioneering @iMAGES cloud-based medical imaging processing and analysis intelligent engine technology, as well as “AMOL” connectivity technology. Within internet and mobile internet environments, Yinggu enables seamless, real-time connectivity among hospitals, physicians, patients, and imaging equipment. This facilitates cloud-based storage, processing, analysis, and intelligent computation of comprehensive medical technology big data, empowering physicians to perform medical diagnostics and collaborative services anytime, anywhere, across any terminal and platform.

Yizhen Cloud is a new-generation comprehensive medical technology platform that completely breaks the “conventional” definition of traditional PACS. The platform encompasses a wide range of applications, including a comprehensive medical technology productivity platform for healthcare institutions, a medical artificial intelligence application platform, a comprehensive clinical medical technology data analytics platform, a specialty- and disease-specific multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration platform, mobile applications, public-facing patient experience services, medical education services, and medical research translation services.

Top Ten Yizhen Cloud IT Services

Currently, Yizhen Cloud has established a unified cloud platform encompassing ten major business centers for all medical technical services across healthcare institutions (with over 90% of medical data derived from unstructured medical technical data). Leveraging dozens of large-scale data centers distributed throughout China and overseas, it provides SaaS cloud services to enhance medical technical productivity for various healthcare institutions. Through a pure SaaS model, it enables agile adoption of healthcare informatics and facilitates a transformative shift in business models, offering comprehensive, full-scenario cloud services and solutions for medical technical operations and data management.

Leveraging the rich and typical application scenarios of Yizhen Cloud’s technical services in medical institutions, along with the seamless integration of the entire industry-academia-research-application chain, and combining this with the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, a medical AI open platform—“Yizhen·AI+”—has emerged. By aggregating and opening up the core AI capabilities and resources of Yizhen Cloud, the platform promotes the implementation of AI in the field of medical artificial intelligence and collaborates with partners to build a new ecosystem for “AI + Healthcare.” Currently, the first batch of AI solutions, naturally integrated into clinical workflows, has gone live. Xi’an Yinggu Network Technology Co., Ltd. enables cloud-based AI empowerment for every medical institution, every physician, and across all work scenarios, thereby reducing workload, improving efficiency, and enhancing healthcare quality. This philosophy aligns closely with Huawei’s vision of “Inclusive AI.”

Together, We Go Global

Outside the main entrance of Yinggu, there are two electronic screens. One displays a world map composed of dot-matrix lights, marking the data centers that Yinggu has already built. The blinking light points reveal Yinggu’s core layout, coverage, and its determination to expand globally.

Another electronic screen displays a statistical chart of Yizhen Cloud’s daily consultation volume. Each examination or minimally invasive surgery performed on the medical technology platform is connected in real time to the Yizhen Cloud, causing the light dot representing the hospital’s location to flash once.

As shown in the figure below, by 11:30 a.m., the light had already flashed 52,710 times. Huang Yedong told VCBeat, “Yizhen Cloud currently handles over 70,000 consultations per day, with a cumulative total exceeding 28 million. It has been deployed in more than 1,600 hospitals and boasts a substantial client base in regions such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Fujian, and Hebei. Excluding Taiwan, Yizhen Cloud’s hospital deployments now cover the entire country.”
