Recently, VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) learned from foreign media reports that on November 1 local time, digital health company Klue announced that its platform would launch a reminder feature specifically designed for patients with type 1 diabetes to help them manage their meals and health conditions.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Klue is a startup that leverages gesture monitoring to track eating behaviors and is currently shifting its focus to type 1 diabetes. The new program on the Klue platform can integrate with smartwatches to measure how much a person eats or drinks, as well as the duration of meals. The latest features also include an automated text messaging component, allowing users to choose to share their data feeds with others. For example, parents can monitor whether their children are eating and how frequently. The app can also provide statistical analysis of users’ dietary habits. However, this technology cannot detect the specific types of food consumed by the user.

The American Diabetes Association reports that approximately 1.25 million children and adults in the United States have type 1 diabetes. For patients, managing diabetes is both time-consuming and complex. Katelijn Vleugels, Founder and CEO of Klue, stated, “This is a disease that places an extremely heavy burden on patients, as the amount of insulin they need to inject is correlated with their carbohydrate intake. Klue’s new technology can detect when and how patients eat, as well as the quantity consumed, and remind them to inject insulin or take medication on schedule.”

Furthermore, this May, the company announced two partnerships. The first is a five-week clinical study conducted in collaboration with Stanford University, primarily aimed at developing applications of the company’s products in consumer behavior. The second is a partnership with Crossover Health, a primary care provider, to integrate Klue’s technology into Crossover Health’s clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area.
