Lupus is an autoimmune disease that primarily affects women aged 15 to 44. This condition causes the patient’s immune system to recognize and attack their own healthy tissues. Lupus can trigger localized inflammation in various parts of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, and heart. The disease is often difficult to diagnose because its symptoms and signs are typically very similar to those of other conditions. According to estimates by the Lupus Foundation of America, there are currently up to 1.5 million people in the United States alone living with lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, or SLE).
Progentec’s technologies include highly accurate biomarker-based assays for disease diagnosis prior to symptom onset, as well as monitoring and predicting disease activity levels in lupus. The core technology underlying its platform under development is provided by the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) in the United States.
LupusCorner was founded in 2016 with the aim of improving the experience of lupus patients through user-friendly and powerful technology. Currently, nearly 45,000 lupus patients engage with the LupusCorner platform each month.
Mohan Purushothaman, CEO of Progentec, stated, “The addition of LupusCorner and its users further advances our vision of creating a comprehensive disease management platform, ensuring that the patient voice becomes an integral component of our ecosystem. We look forward to enhancing the platform to address the unmet market needs for lupus diagnosis and management tools.”
