With China’s economic development, an aging population, and the rising incidence of major diseases such as cancer, the domestic medical device industry has experienced rapid growth. The government has introduced a series of favorable policies, laying the foundation for future industrial expansion. However, the industry also faces significant challenges. The widespread application of novel biomaterials has posed new challenges to testing, particularly in the analysis of new material compositions. Many medical devices require both active and passive testing; yet, there is a relative lack of professional expertise in passive testing within China, especially in animal studies. Demand among Chinese physicians for specialized and systematic training in medical device testing is expected to grow rapidly, but high-quality training institutions are severely lacking. As product technologies continue to advance, Chinese medical device manufacturers are increasingly seeking entry into European and American markets, driving growing demand for high-quality, internationally aligned testing and regulatory services.

“WuXi AppTec’s testing platform aims to provide world-class, integrated testing solutions, helping scientists transform their concepts into healthcare products and truly bridge the gap between scientific research and clinical application, thereby benefiting a broad patient population,” said Dr. Liu Fujun.By providing one-stop testing and regulatory services for medical devices, ranging from R&D to commercialization, WuXi AppTec’s Testing Business Unit helps enterprises implement quality control across multiple stages. This enables companies to focus their efforts on the innovative R&D of medical devices, reduce capital waste, and truly empower small and medium-sized enterprises.

The newly inaugurated testing center covers a total area of 15,000 square meters. By comprehensively adopting the capabilities, operational procedures, and quality management systems of WuXi AppTec’s U.S. Medical Device Testing Center, it will provide comprehensive medical device testing services that comply with international quality standards. These services encompass biomaterials analytical toxicology, biocompatibility, risk assessment, microbiological testing for product sterile design, physical testing such as packaging and shelf-life studies, as well as batch release testing. Meanwhile, the center plans to establish a world-class physician training facility to foster close integration among industry, academia, and research, thereby supporting the robust development of China’s medical device industry. In the future, adhering to the principle of seeking truth and practicality, the center will deliver high-standard, high-quality testing and related services to help bring internationally leading healthcare products to patients worldwide and contribute to the rapid advancement of China’s medical device industry.
