VoxelCloud Advances Full-Spectrum AI Diagnostic Platform Across Multiple Clinical Scenarios

According to VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat), the 2018 China Digital Medicine Summit opened on the 17th in Boao, Hainan. Leaders from the China Food and Drug Administration, the Hospital Management Institute of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and the Hainan Provincial Health Commission, along with experts and scholars from nearly 100 tertiary hospitals both domestically and internationally, attended the conference. The event featured a variety of academic exchange activities, with invited keynote speakers being leading experts and scholars in the field of medical artificial intelligence from around the world.

As a special guest, Ding Xiaowei, Founder and CEO of VoxelCloud, delivered a keynote speech titled “Tiered Scenarios: AI Medical Image Analysis” at the sub-forum on “Frontier Technologies: Integrating Cutting-Edge AI into Clinical Practice.” He introduced VoxelCloud’s approach to developing AI healthcare products based on scenario classification, which better aligns with the needs of medical institutions, and presented the company’s comprehensive product portfolio covering all disease types. As early as 2017, Mr. Ding proposed the concept of a full-disease-spectrum product line, pioneering the industry’s first AI healthcare product system encompassing all disease categories.

At the forum, Ding Xiaowei stated that, from a medical professional perspective, VoxelCloud positions its product portfolio to cover all disease types rather than focusing on single diseases, in order to better empower existing clinical workflows. Many products in the industry are developed for specific single diseases or single lesion types, such as computer-aided diagnosis systems for diabetic retinopathy or pulmonary nodules. In contrast, VoxelCloud’s products are positioned based on comprehensive disease coverage within specific anatomical regions—for example, a full-spectrum screening solution for chest CT, a comprehensive screening solution for retinal diseases, and an AI-based triage system covering all dermatological conditions—thereby adapting to complex clinical environments.

Currently, many companies in the industry have launched AI-based screening products for pulmonary nodules. However, from the perspective of clinical medical practice, standalone pulmonary nodule screening is insufficient to meet physicians’ clinical needs. During chest CT examinations, lung cancer screening constitutes only a small portion of the diagnostic requirements. The phenomenon of “different diseases presenting with similar imaging features, and the same disease presenting with different imaging features,” commonly seen in conditions such as pneumonia, pulmonary bullae, pleural effusion, and bronchiectasis, remains difficult to detect. This limitation restricts the application scope of these products to a very narrow range. VoxelCloud’s comprehensive chest CT screening solution, which covers multiple common diseases and frequent lesion types detectable by chest CT, is poised to gain broader clinical adoption.

In the realm of ophthalmic products, Voxel Technology’s comprehensive screening solution for all retinal diseases also stands apart from similar offerings in the industry. By leveraging fundus photographs combined with patient information, this product enables comprehensive screening for major chronic fundus diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration, while also providing early warnings for other pathological changes, thereby achieving truly comprehensive coverage of fundus diseases. Patients can undergo a thorough screening for various fundus conditions with just a single fundus photograph, which holds significant clinical value for hospital ophthalmology departments, endocrinology departments, and health examination centers. At the exhibition, Voxel Technology also showcased its all-in-one hardware and software system for comprehensive ophthalmic disease screening. The fully automated operation, coupled with an automated image reading system, significantly saves staff time. Currently, Voxel Technology’s comprehensive ophthalmic disease screening products have been first implemented in the National Standardized Metabolic Disease Management Centers (MMC) and are now deployed in more than 100 MMC centers across hospitals in China.

Another product line covering all disease types is “AI Triage for All Skin Conditions,” represented by VoxelCloud’s latest release, “VoxelSkin Insight.” This is the first intelligent, comprehensive skin condition assessment solution for the general public in China and worldwide, based on deep learning image analysis and processing technology. It fully leverages VoxelCloud’s technical strengths in medical imaging, along with millions of images and text data from mobile remote dermatology consultations. By harnessing AI’s ability to abstract and extract information and aggregating specialized dermatological knowledge, it provides comprehensive intelligent recognition and analysis of skin lesions, enabling intelligent matching and assessment for hundreds of skin diseases, thus serving as an effective AI tool for pre-consultation triage.

At the conference, Ding Xiaowei also introduced other product lines from Voxel Technology, such as “Pediatric Refractive Error Screening,” “Pediatric Visual Impairment Screening,” and “Cardiac Coronary Angiography CT Solutions.” Hospital presidents from across China and leaders from the Center for Drug Evaluation of the National Medical Products Administration visited and experienced Voxel Technology’s booth, where they tried out the all-in-one ophthalmic disease screening system. They spoke highly of the device, advocating for and endorsing a multi-task learning model that enables AI to genuinely serve and contribute to physicians’ work.

All product projects developed by VoxelCloud are positioned as “medical imaging readers for all disease types.” In the future, VoxelCloud will leverage medical imaging as its foundation, integrate multi-modal data, and provide automated referral capabilities, diagnostic decision support, preliminary imaging reports, and a diverse range of productized services. These offerings will deliver high-value analytical services to hospitals and patients, while establishing an intelligent infrastructure for internet-based healthcare.
