Recently, VCBeat learned that Tangkong Weishi, a diabetes health management service platform, has completed an angel round of financing amounting to several million yuan, led by Beijing Gongqi Medical Health Management Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Gongqi Medical”).

According to He Daoxin, founder of Tangkong Weishi (Glucose Control Guardian), this round of funding will be used for team building and product development.

China has 114 million people with diabetes, accounting for one-third of the global total. Additionally, there are 490 million individuals in China with prediabetes. Annual expenditures on diabetes treatment exceed RMB 170 billion. Diabetes can lead to various complications, including hypertension, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, as well as foot, eye, and kidney disorders. Despite such substantial healthcare investment, the rate of patients achieving target blood glucose levels remains below 40%. Prolonged instability in blood glucose contributes to a high incidence of diabetic complications.

Amid the strategic backdrop of “Internet + Healthcare,” and driven by the vast market for diabetes, remote healthcare projects in this field sparked a “Hundred Glucose Wars” from 2012 to 2015. This period saw a proliferation of platform-based products in this niche segment. However, three years later, many projects failed due to unclear business models, ambiguous positioning, and severe homogenization. Platform-based diabetes products have now entered a new phase of business model exploration.

Mr. He Daoxin has been exclusively engaged in diabetes prevention and control since 2005, accumulating 13 years of specialized experience. He currently serves as Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Beijing Diabetes Prevention and Control Association, and as Executive Deputy Director of the Healthy China Development Working Committee under the China Life Care Association. As one of the principal founders of the Beijing Diabetes Education Base and the Beijing Diabetes Management School, he possesses extensive expertise in association management, health education, patient management, media operations, and public awareness campaigns. Over the past 13 years, he has directly or indirectly organized more than 2,000 educational activities for patients with diabetes.

Over more than a decade of public health management, He Daoxin has befriended many patients with diabetes, regularly engaging in discussions with them and empathizing deeply with their suffering. Meanwhile, he observed that in the field of diabetes care, issues such as low rates of glycemic control, difficulties in self-management, limited access to medical care, and high healthcare costs were particularly prominent. As a professional long dedicated to diabetes prevention, treatment, and management, he resolved to contribute his utmost efforts toward improving the current state of diabetes care in China, enabling the vast majority of patients to live happily despite their condition. Thus, the “Blood Sugar Guardian” platform was officially launched in August 2015, providing diabetes health management services to patients.

Guided by the philosophy of “Technology Transforming Diabetes,” Tangkong Weishi has, through three years of development and practice, established a mature and distinctive management system for diabetes and its complications in areas such as disease management and patient education. It has evolved into a comprehensive telemedicine service platform integrating health management, training, and education.

During the interview with He Daoxin, “innovation” left a deep impression on the reporter. Under his leadership, the Blood Sugar Guardian platform has achieved multiple innovations in its business model, such as launching China’s first live-streaming platform for diabetes patient education. The project was jointly certified by six Beijing municipal departments, including the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, as a “Beijing New Technology, New Product, and New Service” project. It is the only project in the field of diabetes to receive this honor and has repeatedly won major awards in both international and domestic professional competitions.

During the boom in internet-based healthcare, relying solely on user base and traffic volume to secure financing will result in persistently high customer acquisition costs. Tangkong Weishi (Glucose Control Guardian) not only boasts official certifications and partnerships but also possesses abundant resources from hospitals and industry organizations. He Daoxin stated that cost control is inherently linked to professionalism: “When a project lacks clarity and professional rigor, it essentially amounts to throwing money at risks.”

Three years after its establishment, once its operations had become sufficiently solid and professional, Tangkong Weishi (Blood Sugar Control Guardian) secured millions in funding from the Gongqi Medical Group. He Daoxin revealed that, through this partnership with investors, Tangkong Weishi’s platform resources will form a strong complementary advantage with Gongqi Medical’s hospitals and health industry ecosystem, providing professional medical support for related products.
