Recently, VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) learned from foreign media reports that Curavi Health, a healthcare company providing comprehensive telemedicine solutions for nursing homes, has announced the acquisition of TripleCare. The financial details of this acquisition have not yet been disclosed. However, it is undeniable that this acquisition will help Curavi Health become a leader in the telemedicine market for post-acute care.
TripleCare, established in January 2012, is a telehealth solutions provider for the long-term care industry, headquartered in Long Island, New York, and dedicated to delivering post-acute care. The company’s specialized medical team collaborates with healthcare professionals at medical institutions to provide patients with consistent, high-quality nursing services.
Within the healthcare system, patients face numerous challenges during treatment, the most significant of which is whether they can access rapid, effective, high-quality care. The founders of TripleCare discovered that many patients experience worsening conditions or delayed recovery due to a lack of care after physicians go off duty. Additionally, hospitals suffer revenue losses from underutilized care facilities, and a “revolving door” phenomenon occurs between hospitals and nursing homes. Unnecessary transfers may disrupt patient care and even harm their health, while costing Medicare and other healthcare payers billions of dollars annually.
Therefore, TripleCare has developed a method to provide scalable, high-quality care to patients in need following diagnosis and treatment. Similar to Curavi Health, TripleCare has created an integrated telehealth platform that enables patients to receive care during times when physicians are typically unavailable, such as on weekends, at night, and during holidays.
TripleCare’s physicians leverage advanced technologies to collaborate with nurses at Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs), providing on-site treatment and timely clinical interventions when patients’ conditions change, thereby avoiding hospital admissions or readmissions. TripleCare’s virtual services enable its physicians to evaluate patients and determine who can be treated on-site versus who requires transfer to a hospital.
The company currently partners with multiple skilled nursing facilities, providing services in more than 10 states across the United States. To date, TripleCare physicians have delivered on-site care to tens of thousands of patients across 50 healthcare institutions, helping skilled nursing facilities avoid unnecessary hospital transfers and admissions in over 80% of cases, thereby increasing patient census and on-site treatment rates while reducing readmission rates.
Upon completion of the acquisition, the merged entity will serve nearly 100 healthcare facilities across 14 states. Alissa Meade, President and Chief Executive Officer of Curavi Health, will continue to serve as CEO of the combined company, while Mary Jo Gorman, Interim CEO of TripleCare, will join the newly formed board of directors of Curavi Health. Leslie C. Davis, Senior Vice President of UPMC, Executive Vice President of Health Services, and Chief Operating Officer, will also join the newly established board of directors.
Alissa Meade stated, “By combining the strengths of these two telehealth leaders in the post-acute care services industry, the healthcare institutions and patients we serve will gain access to the highest-quality nursing care and the most innovative telehealth technologies.”
