“Alwayslove, Love Forever. A mother’s love for her child is profound. We aspire to build a platform rooted in love and to spread that love through it,” Guan Liqing, founder of Aiwei, told VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat).
Having dedicated two decades to the pharmaceutical industry, Guan Liqing identified a significant gap in the maternal and infant sector. Amidst the fiercely competitive “red ocean” of maternal and infant products, there remains substantial consumer demand for content. However, most existing maternal and infant community platforms rely on Professional Generated Content (PGC), with very few offering spaces for ordinary users to share their experiences.
In January 2018, Guan Liqing founded Shanghai Alwayslove Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Alwayslove”). As a decentralized vertical knowledge-sharing community focused on maternal and infant care, Alwayslove has achieved a transition from pure PGC (Professionally Generated Content) to an integrated PGC+UGC (User-Generated Content) model, enabling ordinary users to share their experiences on the platform and earn revenue selectively.
By sheer coincidence, the day of the interview marked the first day of Alwayslove’s launch. Guan Liqing told reporters that within the first 20 minutes after going live, the platform had attracted 2,000 users and 40 experts.
“Decentralized” Vertical Knowledge-Sharing Community for Maternal and Child Health
“Children nowadays are prone to picky eating, which can lead to malnutrition,” Guan Liqing told reporters. “I have a friend who, to encourage their child to eat properly, prepares a different variety of breakfast every day, achieving good results. My friend shares these breakfast-making experiences on their WeChat Moments daily.”
Inspired by the “all-powerful Moments,” Guan Liqing recognized women’s demand for knowledge and for communication and sharing, expanding from specific instances to broader trends. Consequently, Guan Liqing “brought along” Zhu Guangpeng, who had extensive experience in developing multiple data systems, to leave Haier Medical. Leveraging WeChat Mini Programs as an entry point, they ventured into the maternal and infant “content” sector and established a “decentralized” vertical knowledge-sharing community for mothers and infants.
Alwayslove Knowledge Sharing Community, in addition to inviting industry experts and influencers to join the platform and share their experiences, places greater emphasis on empowering “everyday” mothers to become content creators. The knowledge shared by each experienced parent, expert, and influencer can meet the needs of other users, enabling them to influence a broader audience through knowledge sharing. Furthermore, the platform attracts more mothers to join through a Q&A rating system and cash incentives, striving to build a nationwide maternal and child health knowledge IP.
According to Guan Liqing, the platform features five major sections to help mothers find what they need:
Preconception Care: Key Considerations (Diet, Lifestyle, etc.) and the Emotional Journey of Preparing for Pregnancy;
Pregnancy and Childbirth: In addition to covering routine precautions for physical changes during all stages of pregnancy, it also includes prenatal exercise, yoga, and other related activities, as well as knowledge on childbirth and postpartum care.
Parenting: Sharing of various parenting knowledge, including summaries of expert parenting experiences and exchanges of parenting tips.
Nutrition: An introduction to the nutritional needs of pregnant women and babies at different stages, along with a variety of maternal and infant recipes from culinary experts;
Entertainment: Lighthearted, witty, and humorous hand-drawn comics, curated jokes, stories, and more for moms to enjoy during their leisure time.
Content-Centric, Gradually Expanding Revenue Model
Guan Liqing stated that Alwayslove strictly controls content quality. In addition to using AI to automatically screen out substandard content, a professional medical review team oversees specialized issues to ensure the quality of the content.
Once the content is solidified, Alwayslove can draw a share of revenue from knowledge-based Q&A and generate additional income through third-party collaborations by embedding sponsored articles within knowledge-driven content. Guan Liqing stated that the primary revenue stream is a new retail model in which the platform earns commissions from product referral orders completed by highly rated users.
Furthermore, by continuously building trust in its knowledge base and offering premium knowledge-sharing content covering the 0–12 age group’s industry chain partnerships, Alwayslove is better positioned to penetrate commercial collaborations in online education, wedding celebrations, and tourism resources.
In terms of market expansion, Alwayslove not only relies on advertising and user-driven viral growth but also acquires customers by partnering with experts. Additionally, Alwayslove collaborates with enterprises, where these partners help promote Alwayslove, while Alwayslove provides content creation services for them.
VCBeat has learned that Alwayslove is currently raising its Series A financing round.
