Hupnos Submits IPO Prospectus for Its Smart Anti-Snoring Mask Utilizing EPAP Technology

Studies have shown that chronic snoring may lead to changes in an individual’s health, including fatigue, headaches, irritability, and even depression. A simple and comfortable solution for snoring is the first step toward improving health.

Currently, CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) therapy is regarded by industry professionals as a relatively effective solution, and similar treatments such as EPAP (Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure) therapy also demonstrate favorable efficacy. However, patients are often reluctant to use these therapies because the nasal masks and tubing associated with the devices are uncomfortable, and the equipment itself appears bulky.

The Hupnos smart anti-snoring mask, unveiled at the 2019 CES, is said to reduce users’ snoring and thereby address their sleep problems. Curtis Ray, founder of Hupnos, suffers from snoring that has been progressively worsening. After trying all the anti-snoring products available on the market, he ultimately decided to build a smart mask capable of reducing snoring by leveraging EPAP therapy, a core technology with proven efficacy.

During user testing, Hupnos’s R&D team identified two primary issues. The first was that individuals who breathe through their mouths struggle to fall asleep. The second was that users of other anti-snoring products are typically unaware of the appropriate pressure level required.

Therefore, the company has designed an EPAP system controlled by a smartphone application. The app can listen to sounds made by the user during sleep and determine whether they are snoring. A triaxial accelerometer inside the mask monitors user movement to assess wakefulness. When snoring is detected, the smart anti-snore mask applies pressure by closing the exhalation valve until the snoring ceases. If the user is perceived to be awake, the smart anti-snore mask opens the exhalation valve to avoid interfering with normal breathing.

The Hupnos sleep mask features built-in temperature sensors and a three-axis accelerometer, enabling Bluetooth connectivity with iOS (11.3+) and Android (5.0+) smartphones. Equipped with a 300mAh battery, it requires 3–4 hours for a full charge and provides over 20 hours of continuous use.

Compared with other sleep-aid products on the market, the Hupnos Smart Anti-Snoring Mask offers the following advantages:

Real-Time Snoring Detection

The free app bundled with the smart anti-snoring mask can detect users’ nighttime snoring and record the data.

Users can review all nighttime snoring data via the app during the day—including body posture, snoring duration, and other sounds emitted during sleep—to identify factors affecting sleep quality and take corrective measures to improve their rest.

Optimizing Sleep Posture

Smart Anti-Snoring Mask Can Detect Users' Sleeping Positions Throughout the Night. If the User Snores While Lying on Their Back, the Mask Will Emit a Slight Buzzing Sound. The Subtle Vibration Will Prompt the User to Turn Over Without Fully Waking Up.

Snoring is caused by many different factors. It may stem from the structure of the oral cavity; in overweight individuals, elongated throat tissues or uvula can narrow the airway, leading to snoring. Typically, improper sleep posture can also force the upper airway to close and exert undue pressure on the uvula, thereby causing snoring.

The Hupnos app analyzes these situations and then sends signals to the user’s body via subtle vibrations to prompt a change in sleeping position, thereby helping the user stop snoring.

Of course, all of this is performed automatically by the smart anti-snoring mask and does not affect the user's normal sleep.

Dilate the airway

This patent-pending smart anti-snoring mask increases the user’s expiratory pressure, thereby opening the airway and enabling quiet, snore-free breathing.

Snoring occurs when the body's muscles relax during sleep, causing the soft palate, tongue, and uvula to vibrate with airflow. By expanding the airway, the Hupnos mask can rapidly alleviate users' snoring issues.
