Kaiyun Health Files for IPO, Aiming to Set Benchmark in Standardized Health Management Services

In 2016, the health management sector received a significant policy boost with the release of the “Outline of the ‘Healthy China 2030’ Plan,” which spurred the emergence of various commercial health management centers. Statistics show that there are over 3,000 professional health management centers in China. However, the health management market is mixed in quality; many centers operate under the banner of health management but fail to provide standardized health services, resulting in low public trust. Furthermore, the payer structure for health management remains unclear. Basic medical insurance typically covers only costs associated with medical treatment, with limited coverage for pre-disease prevention and post-treatment health management. Commercial insurance also mostly covers single diseases, which has, to some extent, hindered the development of the health management industry.

Kaiyun Health is dedicated to providing standardized health management service tools. “We are a supplier of intelligent, customizable mobile health and medical solutions, and have secured angel-round financing from Hanwei Electronics Technology, a leading listed company in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector,” said Zhou Tao, founder of Kaiyun Health, in an interview. “Our clients include healthcare institutions at all levels, health examination centers, health management organizations, insurance companies, elderly care facilities, enterprises and public institutions, the real estate industry, and rehabilitation centers.” Leveraging mobile internet and IoT platforms, Kaiyun Health delivers comprehensive and standardized health management process designs and solutions to its customers.

“Hardware + Software + Services” Trinity: Online-to-Offline Integration

Kaiyun Health leverages software and intelligent health monitoring devices to establish a tripartite, closed-loop health management model integrating “hardware + software + services.” Centered on health management, Kaiyun Health has designed and developed a comprehensive chronic disease management platform for individual consumers (C-end users). This platform facilitates chronic disease intervention through a suite of health monitoring devices, including blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, body composition analyzers, fitness trackers, pulse oximeters, blood lipid analyzers, ECG devices, uric acid meters, and health examination kiosks.

For B2B health management clients, Kaiyun Health’s cloud platform offers a range of services, including VIP customer management systems, health education, client management, user and permission management, follow-up interventions, risk alerts, population management by disease and risk categories, and automated generation of health reports.

Currently, Kaiyun Health has developed hundreds of corporate clients, including medical and health institutions at all levels such as the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University, and the Third People's Hospital of Henan Province, as well as hundreds of government and enterprise entities such as the Zhengzhou Railway Bureau and Zhengzhou Public Transport.

In terms of hardware, Kaiyun Health has independently developed health products such as spirometers and smart pillows. These products benefit from module supply and complete unit design provided by Hanwei Technology Group, an IoT enterprise centered on sensor technology, which offers technical support across the entire process of design, research and development, and production.

In terms of services, Kaiyun Health adopts a service model of “contracted physicians + service teams + support platforms.” It has established a health management center in Zhengzhou, covering an area of approximately 300 square meters with costs around RMB 1.5 million. “The health management center serves as our prototype for standardized health management, and we will leverage it to develop benchmark markets,” said Zhou Tao. The Zhengzhou health management center caters not only to individual consumers (C-end) by providing solutions for chronic disease management, mental health management, and smart community health management, but also to enterprises and institutions (B-end) by offering solutions for health record management, employee health management, hospital health management, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health management, health management for elderly care institutions, and pharmacy member health management. “We have mature prototypes for the integration of smart health devices, as well as for health management tools, technologies, and architectures. Therefore, we can participate as a third party in differentiated competition within the health management industry.”

Team & Development

Before founding Kaiyun Health, Zhou Tao had seven years of work experience at ZTE. In 2012, when 3G networks were not yet widely adopted, Zhou recognized that mobile internet and the Internet of Things (IoT) were poised to become new growth engines for the industry in the coming years. Given the limited presence of the internet in the health management sector at the time, he saw significant development potential in the convergence of “mobile internet + healthcare.”

In the healthcare sector, Kaiyun Health boasts a team of experts from the medical and health industries. On the technical front, it has established an Academician Workstation in Health Engineering through collaboration with the Key Laboratory of Aviation Medicine Engineering of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, led by Yu Mengsun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Additionally, it has forged a partnership with the National Population Research Data Sharing Platform.

Regarding future development, Zhou Tao stated that Kaiyun Health plans to establish 30 chain health management centers over the next two years, using its Zhengzhou health management center as a benchmark. By targeting mid-to-high-end clients, the company aims to expand its industry scale and thereby enhance user acceptance.
