VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that on January 22, SHEROES, a women’s community startup headquartered in Delhi, announced the acquisition of Maya, a women’s health app based in Bangalore. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SHEROES aims to deepen its women’s healthcare services within its community through this acquisition. John Paul, founder of Maya, will join the SHEROES team to enhance its product leadership. The SHEROES community currently boasts 14 million members and targets reaching 100 million registered users within the next three to four years.

SHEROES, founded by Sairee Chahal in 2013, aims to provide a sharing platform for 14 million women. Female users can discuss health, careers, and relationships, as well as share their life stories, achievements, and significant moments. The platform features more than 30 communities, with members from diverse backgrounds, including homemakers, professionals, retail workers, entrepreneurs, and students.

SHEROES began as a professional community and has since evolved into a women-only social networking platform featuring up to 65 online communities, covering areas such as arts, travel, writing, marketplace (P2P sales), family and legal counseling, parenting, careers, and health.

“The Health Community is one of the fastest-growing communities within the SHEROES app. Adding Maya to our product suite helps us enhance our service offerings in the health sector,” said Sairee Chahal, Founder and CEO of SHEROES. “SHEROES is committed to building a connected platform exclusively for women, delivering a novel experience as they seek advice, resources, and opportunities. Safety, high trust, and deep empathy are the core values shared by both SHEROES and Maya.”

Maya, founded by John Paul, aims to empower women to track their health through a mobile application. Currently used by women in more than 20 countries, Maya is a game-changer in the medical technology sector, offering services such as diagnostic testing, online physician consultations, fertility prediction, and pregnancy tracking. The app is available in 14 international languages and dialects, including Hindi and Tamil.

John Paul, founder of Maya, said, “I have seen the SHEROES community play a constructive role in addressing women’s health issues. We cannot imagine what the female-oriented internet would look like without women’s health, or without the counseling, business, and innovation opportunities provided by the SHEROES platform.”

Maya claims that approximately 70% of female reproductive health issues are caused by menstrual irregularities, and in India, women still rely on manual methods to track their health status. Leveraging the penetration of smartphones in remote areas, Maya enables women to better manage their health through mobile devices.

In 2016, the global women's health market was valued at $36.5 billion and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.9% from 2018 to 2025. In recent years, the global women's healthcare market has expanded at a remarkable pace, driven by the increasing prevalence of menopause among women. Changes in lifestyle and poor dietary habits are also expected to contribute significantly to the surge in overall market revenue.
