VCBeat (WeChat: vcbeat) has learned that on January 21, Nordic Capital announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Orchid Orthopedic Solutions (“Orchid”), with previous owner Altor Fund III retaining a minority stake. The parties did not disclose financial details of the transaction. Goldman Sachs and Citi served as financial advisors, while Kirkland & Ellis LLP acted as legal counsel.

Orchid, founded in 1990 and headquartered in Holt, Michigan, USA, is a global leader in the design and manufacture of orthopedic implants. Orchid’s primary products include hip, knee, extremity, and spinal implants, as well as single-use and multi-use complex instruments for implant-related surgeries.

As a strategic partner to leading global medical device OEMs, Orchid provides solutions in product and process design, backed by a comprehensive suite of manufacturing capabilities for production and finished-goods packaging. The company serves customers worldwide through 12 manufacturing sites across the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and China. Committed to continuous innovation, Orchid delivers differentiated manufacturing processes that yield unique, high-quality products. Meanwhile, Orchid simplifies customer supply chains and provides end-to-end solutions through its extensive portfolio of implantable products.

The orthopedic implant market has benefited from sustained strong growth, driven by an increasingly active elderly population, the widespread prevalence of obesity, advances in medical technology, and improved access to surgical orthopedic care. As an industry leader backed by Nordic Capital, Orchid is ideally positioned to help its customers enhance competitiveness while meeting rising demand.

“We are impressed by Orchid, which boasts a strong management team and is highly attractive in the rapidly evolving orthopedic implant market. We look forward to Orchid supporting the company’s further development,” said Jonas Agnblad, Partner and Co-Head of Healthcare at Nordic Capital Funds. “We are committed to working closely with Orchid’s management team to support its growth strategy.”

It is understood that Orchid’s current management team, led by CEO Jerry Jurkiewicz, will continue to lead the company, sustaining its strong track record of organic and acquisition-driven growth.

Jerry Jurkiewicz, CEO of Orchid, stated, “We are delighted to welcome Nordic Capital as our new partner and to embark on this new journey together. We are building the Orchid platform, dedicated to providing our customers with a range of innovative implant solutions sourced from high-performing operational sites worldwide. With a strong partner like Nordic Capital, I am confident that our progress will only accelerate.”
