VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that Fertility Focus, a fertility monitoring technology company, recently secured $2.7 million in Series A financing. The funds will be used to advance the commercialization of its ovulation monitoring device, OvuSense, in the U.S. and European markets, and to finance a new round of clinical trials for the device.
This round of financing comes from Foresight Group. Foresight Group is a private equity investment firm based in London with over 30 years of history. To date, Fertility Focus has secured a total of eight rounds of financing. In 2013, the company raised £1.2 million in venture capital.
Fertility Focus was established in 2005 to commercialize intellectual property developed by a team at the University of Bristol. This team accurately predicted ovulation by monitoring subtle changes in women’s body temperature. Leveraging the team’s research findings, Fertility Focus developed a vaginal sensor called “OvuSense” that monitors core body temperature. By measuring core body temperature, the device reflects changes in progesterone levels within the body. The monitored data is then combined with the company’s proprietary algorithm to predict ovulation up to 24 hours in advance, with an accuracy rate of up to 99%.
OvuSense stands out for its ability to accurately predict the ovulation window even in women with irregular menstrual cycles and ovulatory disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). As a result, OvuSense specifically targets the 4 million women in the United States and the United Kingdom who struggle with infertility, helping them conceive more quickly.
Statistics indicate that approximately 75% of women worldwide suffer from one or more ovulatory disorders, requiring six months or even longer to conceive. Many women struggle to accurately predict their ovulation windows, resulting in delayed pregnancies. Christine Soden, Chief Financial Officer of Fertility Focus, stated, “The fertility industry is expanding rapidly. In 2018, OvuSense saw a surge in its loyal customer base and partnerships. We anticipate that an increasing number of women will use OvuSense in the future.”
Robert Milnes is the CEO of Fertility Focus, an expert in the field of infertility with over 29 years of experience. He stated, “Fertility Focus is helping women conceive quickly, and the support from Foresight Group will be a significant turning point for the company. We are fully prepared to ramp up our sales and marketing efforts.”
Rob Jones, Investment Manager at Foresight Group, stated, “The launch of the second-generation OvuSense product has achieved impressive sales performance in the United States and the United Kingdom, leaving a deep impression on us. We will fully support Fertility Focus in carrying out its next phase of work.”
