VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that on January 28, BATM Advanced Communications (“BATM”), an Israeli company specializing in real-time technologies for networking and medical laboratories, announced a $30 million investment in its joint venture subsidiary, Ador Diagnostics, to advance the commercialization of Ador Diagnostics’ molecular diagnostic solutions.
Under the terms of the agreement, BATM will make an initial investment of $14.5 million by the end of March and provide an additional $15.5 million in funding by the end of 2020, subject to certain conditions.
Headquartered in Rome, Italy, Ador Diagnostics is a joint venture between BATM and Gamida for Life. As a representative company in the field of in vitro diagnostics (IVD), Ador Diagnostics focuses on developing and marketing unique IVD solutions that integrate molecular diagnostics and rapid testing into a single compact, portable, and user-friendly instrument.
NATlab is the first real-time molecular diagnostics platform developed by Ador Diagnostics. It utilizes microarray cartridges to perform sample-to-answer diagnostics for specific infectious diseases and is designed for use in small and medium-sized laboratories, physician offices, point-of-care settings, and clinical testing environments.
According to the Ador Diagnostics website, the NATlab platform can complete the entire diagnostic process within 90 minutes, requiring only two minutes of manual operation. The NATlab platform features built-in DNA and RNA extraction capabilities and enhances PCR (polymerase chain reaction) efficiency through carbon array detection technology, enabling rapid identification of samples associated with specific diseases or infections. This will help physicians provide faster and more effective treatment.
The NATla platform has secured multiple patents in the United States and is currently undergoing final engineering design to obtain regulatory approval. In 2019, the NATla platform will undergo field testing in hospitals across the United States and Europe, with commercialization scheduled for 2020.
“This investment reflects the immense potential of our molecular biology-based diagnostic market solution, which has already demonstrated its feasibility in real-world testing,” said Zvi Marom, CEO of BATM, in a statement. “It also serves as strong validation of our approach to nurturing innovative technology companies and subsequently strengthening their intellectual property. With this funding, we will be able to accelerate the commercialization of the NATlab platform, which we believe will revolutionize the field of medical diagnostics.”
