VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that digital nursing company Bright.md recently announced the addition of a behavioral health module to its virtual care platform, SmartExam, to help patients treat major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, or adjustment disorders.
Bright.md, an intelligent technology company, was co-founded in 2014 by Mark Swinth, a seasoned software and digital health entrepreneur, and Dr. Ray Costantini. In the same year, Bright.md developed, tested, and launched its beta product, and completed a $1 million seed funding round on October 28. On April 23, 2015, Bright.md closed a $3.5 million Series A financing round, led by Oregon Venture Fund. On July 17, 2017, Bright.md secured an $8 million Series B financing round, led by B Capital Group with participation from Seven Peaks Ventures.
Bright.md’s clinical content team works closely with healthcare providers to develop the SmartExam Behavioral Health Module, adhering to best practices to deliver a trustworthy, private, secure, and convenient patient experience. The SmartExam Behavioral Health Module employs the same screening tools used in face-to-face physician interviews, enabling their integration into clinical consultations. This approach enhances access to healthcare services, alleviates tensions between healthcare providers and patients, safeguards patient privacy, and improves patient care pathways.
Research indicates that patients can more accurately report their conditions when consulting via store-and-forward telemedicine, such as SmartExam. SmartExam is a virtual care platform within a health system. Patients log into the SmartExam platform to complete a health survey in approximately 20 minutes, covering symptoms, medication use, and health history. The platform then sends this information, along with provisional diagnoses, potential treatment plans, and timely documentation, to patients, enabling them to receive a treatment plan within one hour in total.
The new behavioral health module of SmartExam, when combined with other modules, can treat over 450 common diseases.
