Recently, VCBeat (WeChat official account: vcbeat) learned that on February 14, Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, entered into a collaboration agreement with the Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida. Under this agreement, the Miami Cancer Institute will adopt Philips’ IntelliSpace Precision Medicine Genomics (IPMG) healthcare information system and implement it in its latest genomics laboratory. This multi-year agreement will drive a new initiative to support clinical treatment decision-making, enabling oncologists to make more informed and personalized care decisions for patients.
IntelliSpace Precision Medicine Genomics (IPMG), powered by the Philips HealthSuite digital platform, enables health systems to make informed, safe, and timely decisions at the right time and in the right place. The Philips HealthSuite digital platform is a cloud-based, open service platform designed to encourage and support the development of next-generation connected health innovations.
“With the implementation of this system, Miami Cancer Institute will become one of a select few elite cancer programs worldwide that integrate all aspects of precision medicine,” said Dr. Jeff Boyd, Deputy Director of Translational Research and Genomic Medicine at Miami Cancer Institute. “It is exciting that our in-house genetics experts collaborate with patient care teams to deliver personalized genetic analysis and tailored medical services to patients in South Florida, the Caribbean, and Latin America.”
Currently, genomic testing continues to provide in-depth insights to enable more targeted and personalized treatments, thereby improving care efficiency and reducing treatment costs. However, implementing precision medicine initiatives can be challenging due to the increasing complexity of data and barriers to cross-departmental information sharing and communication.
To help healthcare institutions keep pace with the rapid advancements in genomics, Royal Philips’ IPMG health information system integrates genomic data with disease histology and patient information, providing comprehensive biomarker-based diagnostic and therapeutic imaging for patients, while also offering a clinical workflow platform for care teams.
“At Miami Cancer Institute, we are committed to supporting advanced diagnostic testing (next-generation sequencing), leveraging genomic data to help patients find appropriate and effective treatment options,” said Wei Qi, Director of the Genomics Laboratory. “By adopting this solution from Royal Philips, we can provide our oncology care teams with the information they need to make better care decisions, helping our institution fulfill its mission and enhance clinical quality to the greatest extent possible.”
This new initiative, jointly launched by Miami Cancer Institute and Royal Philips, has also facilitated Miami Cancer Institute’s collaboration with Illumina and N-of-One, accelerating the rollout of TruSight Tumor 170 (TST170). TST170 is a testing service that covers hundreds of genes and variant types associated with common solid tumors. It enables the assessment of multiple biomarkers from a single sample, providing more effective and high-quality molecular testing in a cost-efficient manner. Royal Philips’ IPMG healthcare information system will help capture and store variant data, annotations, clinical interpretations, and recommended treatments, thereby supporting compliance and variant-based patient outcomes.
“As the healthcare sector continues to evolve, particularly in areas related to precision medicine, hospitals and health systems require robust solutions to deliver comprehensive patient information quickly and accurately,” said Louis Culot, General Manager of Oncology Informatics at Royal Philips. “At Royal Philips, we are committed to collaborating with leading cancer centers such as the Miami Cancer Institute to provide the highest level of diagnostic precision for cancer treatment regimens, enabling more effective therapeutic interventions in the early stages of patient care.”
