VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) recently learned that Hologic, a global leader in innovative medical technology companies, launched a new software tool, Unifi Analytics, at the “2019 HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition.” This product enables healthcare institutions to monitor the usage and performance status of mammography equipment at any time.

According to foreign media reports, Unifi Analytics is a business intelligence software tool. In addition to enabling healthcare institutions to manage mammography imaging equipment, the product allows users to monitor device performance in real time, thereby preventing unexpected downtime of mammography systems. Following the market launch of Unifi Analytics, Hologic will deploy technicians to provide comprehensive customer support and regularly collect product data for statistical analysis, facilitating iterative upgrades of the Unifi Analytics platform.

According to official information from Hologic, data collected via Unifi Analytics is securely encrypted, distributed through proprietary channels, and de-identified in accordance with the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Hologic does not collect or share any personal health information. To prevent data misappropriation by other vendors, Unifi Analytics is compatible exclusively with mammography imaging systems manufactured by Hologic.

Hologic, formerly known as Gen-Probe, was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in San Diego, California, USA. Upholding the professional ethos of “striving to be number one in its focused fields,” the company has maintained a leading position in the global molecular diagnostics industry since its inception. Hologic was awarded the “2004 National Medal of Technology” by U.S. President George W. Bush. The company is dedicated to the research and development of rapid, accurate, and efficient molecular diagnostic products, which are primarily used for disease diagnosis, blood screening, and other medical applications.

Hologic’s molecular diagnostics technology is a global leader, primarily due to two key factors.

One key factor lies in Hologic’s advanced RNA technology, which has demonstrated outstanding performance in molecular diagnostics across fields such as women’s health, prostate oncology, virology, blood screening, infectious diseases, and hereditary disorders. Core Hologic products leveraging this technology include APTIMA assays, which are used to detect sexually transmitted infections such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Trichomonas vaginalis, as well as human papillomavirus (HPV), the primary causative agent of cervical cancer. Currently, Hologic continues to develop new assay types to meet the testing needs of clinical laboratories.

On the other hand, Hologic has developed the PANTHER system, an automated, fully enclosed, integrated platform capable of continuously incorporating new assay menus to provide patients with safer and faster testing, with accuracy far surpassing conventional methods. The system has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Leveraging these core technologies, Hologic is able to offer unique molecular diagnostic solutions for clinical laboratories.

“As a leader in the field of breast health medical care, Hologic is committed to finding innovative and effective treatments for breast diseases. Unifi Analytics is undoubtedly a blockbuster product that demonstrates Hologic's R&D strength as the preferred partner for imaging centers in the United States. With changes in the U.S. reimbursement and payment environment, treatment outcomes and patient experience have become increasingly important in the healthcare process. We believe that Unifi Analytics will provide our partners with better products and services. Our customers can obtain the most advanced, clinically validated breast health technology products from Hologic. I believe they will embrace this new business intelligence product,” said Pete Valenti, Head of Hologic’s Breast and Skeletal Health Solutions Division.
